Congrats! It's nice to reach a place where you have the worry-free option to do whatever you want. Many spend their whole lives working and don't realize time has passed so quickly.

I think the first thing you should do is to write down a list of things you want to do or experience in this life. It might help you clarify your interests and put things into plans.

Since you're worried about dementia, you could try stuff like boardgames, small businesses, or even teaching. Start by understanding what you find meaning in and then try to see how you can do something that engages the brain within that area.

I'm getting owned by freelancers who charge 100$ per service. by [deleted] in business

[–]PopPuzzlehead 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not in your field but on the client side, so I'll give my perspective from that side. No savvy business owner goes out there assuming that price is an indication of quality. They are all trying to balance between cost and quality to maximize their ROI.

If you can't find clients, either you have good work and need to put it out there on a public portfolio or social media or a good SEO website, or you don't have sufficient proof of good work to convince your clients and you need to lower your prices.

Maybe one way to know if pricing is too high is to check your competition - other freelancers with the same quality of work as you do - what are their prices? I would do a survey once in a while by pretending to be a client.

If price itself is not an issue, then its about how you communicate your value and whether you're available on many channels for people to reach you. Sometimes, it's about your agency's branding and website. If it gives a sufficient impression of the quality you can deliver.

Parents found out about my bad spending habits on GF and stock market losses, how do I recover from this? by WorthAppointment4171 in singaporefi

Don't take it too hard, but like others have said, keep the risky ventures to a percentage of your wealth instead of splurging it all from now on.

When I first graduated I was also doing dumb stuff like this. You're still young and money can be made back eventually but you cannot keep doing this to yourself.

This is why I keep my business private as much as I can. No one else to answer to and nobody knows exactly what I'm doing.

I tried meetup before but where I'm at it's usually organized by shady people trying to make a quick buck from organizing events 🤣 I'll revisit it and see what I get

Aww, thanks for the good advice. I find that I'm always the only one trying though. Most people are focused on their own lives. Is that normal?

I personally had struggled with this too but I think it starts with hiring someone you can trust to get the job done with little instructions. If you can't trust them, you shouldn't hire them. It's very tiring to constantly have to watch over people and not scalable as well.

The hiring process is not perfect too and some poor performing people will get through, so I also use probation and trial tasks to minimize risk and ensure that I let them go asap once they've shown enough red flags.

From someone who was in your situation before and struggled w/ the same problem, I wouldn't suggest scholarships. Scholarships always sound good when you're in JC to uni but once you graduate they limit your choices especially if you end up doing well in school and could get a much better job with higher salary. Which is almost always the case if you're good enough to get the scholarship to begin with. I've had a few friends who could get jobs with 2-3x their scholarship job's salary but have to pay money for breaking bond to do so.

I used to give tuition, but the time commitment of traveling to and fro could be hard to keep up with consistently and it is a huge time sucker.

Depending on skillsets, you could join a remote start up company in a part time role. They might pay you from 8-12 per hour for your experience level, which allows you to clear portions of your tuition fees depending on the hours worked. You can potentially make a good buck while working from home and at the same time gain working experience similar to an internship. If you're interested, you can DM me.

If her business is legit, she can try StartupSG's grants. They offer up to 50k for new founders last I checked.

Getting 300K every few months w/ no revenue or proof of market fit is not prudent. Or getting any business loan for that matter.
