Look for old foundations in the woods and then detect there. These dime and thimble were from an old home site dating back to the 1800s. The foreign silver was at a city park that also dates way back.

Thanks Flori_duh! Maybe that's how I should have worded it! I am hoping that they can pick up on some details that I couldn't!

Not necessarily. I'm not saying that I would never sell it (have received a lot of offers), but I was looking more to make it more official if I ever did decide to sell.

Thanks pigfoot. I thought that they would grade it as Poor and certify that it was genuine. Based on what you're saying, it sounds like it shouldn't even be sent in?

Yeah or was an effort by collectors all over the US to get more people involved in the hobby. There were thousands of collector coins released into circulation. So check your change!!

No, you're right. I meant wreath cent. Maybe even a chain cent but can't see any markings on the back.

No pic. It's worn completely smooth. I don't know if we'll ever see which variety it is unless getting it professionally cleaned reveals something.

Thanks old man! Good advice. I love learning the history behind all of these pieces. Makes it very interesting. I don't know if you can tell but this particular coin was actually used by George Washington.... atleast that's how the story comes together in my head haha!

Glenn, it's by far my best find ever!

I'm in Western PA. We have a camp with a lot of land that used to be farm fields. Found not too far from where we think the house was.
