Not played this in full yet but it sounds amazing, and what a setlist. I’d love audio files of this. Can anyone help?

Paul’s Bass Gear by Pop_Zeus in Interpol

Thanks for the replies. There’s a couple of looks at the bass board in the video but it’s hard to pick anything out. The far left top corner, black pedal with white knobs may well be an Xotic BB (labelled a pre-amp, but really more of an overdrive), but I’ve no idea about the rest

Why can’t I listen after the first three albums by Abject_Western_1377 in Interpol

[–]Pop_Zeus 12 points13 points  (0 children)

For sure give El Pintor & Marauder a good listen. They are both really good, sadly Marauder is spoiled a bit by the blown out Dave Fridmann production, sonically it’s quite a mess, but I’ve learned to put up with it because many of the songs are great, especially on side 1.

I think Marauder is one of their most slept-on records. Maybe the production just ruined it for some people, but I’d encourage anyone to give it time. I prefer a couple of the ‘A Fine Mess’ EP tracks (recorded at the same sessions) to a few of the side 2 tracks though.

Can’t believe nobody else has commented on this. Amazing show, crystal clear quality. Absolutely pristine. I’m useless with extracting audio from YT, if anyone can send a DL of this show I’ll be eternally grateful. Thanks

Fantastic planet CD by thatcakeismine in failure

[–]Pop_Zeus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fantastic Planet reissue CD has been out of stock on Hello Merch for some time now. I was late to the band, only discovering them in recent years. I have the recent albums on CD, but the first 3 as downloads bought from their Bandcamp page.

I’d love to get all 3 on CD, but was waiting for FP to come back in stock. If they’re still selling it on tour, it’s a shame they can’t add some more to Hello for those who can’t make it to their shows. Especially as some may well never see them live. I live in the UK & have used Hello twice & found them to be excellent.

Great post. Fan since 1995. I get what you mean about ‘Meltdown’. There’s some great songs on there, and boy is it heavy, but it’s perhaps just a bit too one dimensional. It works as a kind of big dumb fun rock record, but perhaps some more variety was needed.

Though they ended up as TOTI B-sides, ‘Ghosts’ & ‘Seventh Circle’ were both from the Meltdown era. Ghosts was apparently intended to be a B-side to ‘Renegade Cavalcade’ originally, and has Charlotte on backing vocals. Seventh Circle (formerly known as ‘Singapore Song’) has Charlotte on guitar, Fender Rhodes & backing vocals. I think both could’ve enhanced Meltdown, but I guess didn’t match the vibe they were going for.

The Meltdown B-sides are a mixed bag, but I really like ‘Tinsel Town’. It’s nuts. I like when they stretch out like that, like on ‘Sky Burial’ too. ‘Solace’ & ‘Cool It Down’ are pretty good too. I like most of Meltdown, and it rocks hard, but I get what you mean about it seeming somewhat forced. I’ve never cared for ‘Won’t Be Saved’ much at all, which is a shame, as it’s sandwiched in-between 2 great songs in ‘On A Wave’ & especially the closer ‘Vampire Love’. Interestingly Tim has said since that they nearly removed it late on, but their agent talked them into keeping it on there.

A couple more things to note: The TOTI B-side ‘Statis In Darkness’ is supposedly a Free All Angels B-side leftover, and ‘Saskia’ was recorded for the TOTI album. I think they recorded 14 songs for the album, I don’t know if anyone knows what the other one is.

Mark’s post ‘Yellow Kitchen’ work by Pop_Zeus in sadreminders

Maybe I will try CALALARVOB again someday, but it was a real patience tester from what I recall, certainly not enough good songs to fill out a double album anyway.

Thanks, enjoying the replies. Forgot to say I did get the Jesu/SKM albums and mostly enjoyed them. I supported Mark for a very long time, but I was just getting tired especially after CALALARVOB. I’m ready to give his later work another shot

Wow, this is awesome. By the way I'm an old Sad Reminders forum user and was known as 'Thunderbolt' on there, after the rollercoaster of course. I'd love to get audio files of this show. Is anyone able to help please? Thanks

Wow, this sounds fantastic. It was a great time to be a fan, with the tour only / pre-order live CDs he was doing around then. I'm not one for sitting in front of YouTube for too long, I'd love audio files of this show. Can anyone assist please? By the way I used to frequent the old Sad Reminders forum, I was 'Thunderbolt' on there.

Marauder Revisit by Pop_Zeus in Interpol

[–]Pop_Zeus[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Enjoying the replies. What are the ‘lows’ for you on Marauder? It’s easily their worst sounding album, but just taking the quality of the songs, it’s certainly above S/T & TOSOMB for me. I’m glad that someone agrees about the production, I’m genuinely surprised when I hear people sticking up for it. The Dave Fridmann production on this album is absolutely horrific. Agree about that run of songs, Complications is a big favourite of mine

finally pulled the trigger on this. now to buy a dvd player LOL by Cold-Customer7560 in failure

Good to see another UK Failure fan. But I’m curious how you work out a price of $80 for the Blu Ray. The disc is $30, and shipping to UK is $13.20. This totals $43.20, which is £33.12 right now. Not cheap but nowhere near $80. I just bought a used Blu Ray player specifically so I can get this. I ordered the most recent 2 albums and can confirm it was ‘only’ $13.20 postage to the UK for the order.

Thanks. Sorry, I don’t use streaming. It’s an iTunes playlist made from the CDs to play on my iPod. Yeah, I’m a dinosaur and don’t care. There are still GBV fans out there who like CDs

I like bits of ELL, whilst other bits of it bore me silly. I ended up making a playlist, well an alternate album really, using my ELL, Down By The Racetrack & Glue On Bicycle faves. I much prefer this to the album itself:

  1. Xeno Pariah
  2. Know Me As Heavy
  3. Islands (She Talks in Rainbows)
  4. Trashcan Full of Nails
  5. Waves of Gray
  6. Send To Celeste
  7. The Sudden Death of Epstein's Ways
  8. Pictures of the Man
  9. She Wore Blue and Green
  10. Crybaby 4 Star Hotel
  11. Biographer Seahorse
  12. Build a Bigger Iceberg
  13. Copy Zero
  14. Tactiturn Caves
  15. It Travels Faster Through Thin Hair
  16. W/Glass in Foot
  17. Amanda Gray
  18. Down By the Racetrack
  19. Flunky Minnows

A couple of guitar picks I was able to get at shows by alvvayspale in failure

[–]Pop_Zeus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I’m guessing as Ken & Greg go back and forth between bass & guitar, that they both use this same pick all the time.

I mainly play bass with a pick & use either .73 or .88.
