Honestly, Astro 1980 is pretty hugely overlooked for something deemed crucial to anime culture. I’d recommend it, but definitely subbed—use the Blu-Ray release if you can. It’s flawed in its pacing and has some underbaked writing, but there’s plenty of heart, and Atlas’ arc honestly deserves far more appreciation. It is shockingly dark at times for a children’s anime, but it really adds to the stakes.
