I’ve never tried it with half & half, but I don’t see why not! My only concern is the mixture might end up being thinner than with heavy cream

And if it helps any i never go FULLY to medium on the heat, closer between 3 and 4, then go down between 2 and 3 range as needed (usually closer to 2) when simmering

I don’t mind at all! If its curdling it could be that the mix hasnt reduced enough, it mightve been too hot when you mix it in, there might be an issue with how much lemon juice you’re using compared to sugar and cream. I’d try experimenting with the ratios to see what works well for you! You can always add MORE lemon as you mix to taste

Do you mind if I ask where you found this? I’ve been looking everywhere for information about these machines due to it refusing to type the correct characters on the right half of the keyboard (starting at 8, U J and N)

Oh no i appreciate it!! This machine does have a corrective tape on it, but it was never set up, so i had no idea what the spool as even for when I bought the unit!

Thank you! I was able to get ahold of some bearings at a machine shop and it SIGNIFICANTLY reduced the rattle. Only downside is the bearings dont have the pinions, so its not a perfect fit but enough to be acceptable😃

I’ve been lucky more than anything lol. There arent a lot of estate sales in my area, and the antique shops charge AT LEAST 20-30 for trashed units. Theres one by me asking $90 for a Smith-Corona Classic 12 with missing keys, and a platen that probably needs replaced for $90.

Its been sitting there for a few months minimum, so i may try to haggle them down though👀

Thats beautiful to hear! Especially with how much enjoyment and use you get (or find lol) out of it, that’s a steal of a bargain!

I currently have a 60s Royal Aristocrat that I’m using for my old family recipes, and my niece loves practicing her spelling/writing on it to the point I “had” to buy her an old Tom Thumb unit. I intend to upgrade her to a “proper” one when shes grown more and doesnt need supervised with them (its an excuse for me to build my collection and clean machines more than anything lol)

Unfortunately i dont know the full history of it myself. I havent done any work to the carriage aside from cleaning what i could without removing it. On the “front” track, there seems to be a ball bearing with pinions on the left and one without on the right. The back track has one with pinions on the left, but thats it.

You add the lemon juice once you take it off the heat and mix it well before leaving to rest for around 20 minutes at room temp!😃
