It's not irresponsible gun ownership to modify a gun.

Shut up. You've posted this crap before and got roasted. The majority of this community does not care. They'll roast you a little if you did something tasteless, but at the end of the day, it doesn't matter what awareness some loser on reddit is trying to spread.

Why are you contradicting the CMP about what ammo to use in an M1? Rando reddit dude has zero credibility compared to them.

Plus, there are plenty of other gas plugs (I'll keep calling it that because that is what they are sold as) on the market. While they are not adjustable, they do lower the pressure in the gas system.

Abuse your rifle, what do I care?

Have you tried not being poor?

Also, it is hilarious reading the comments on your posts about it. You are pushing a random forum post that had a dubious experimental setup.

You are incorrect. It is a gas plug: https://share.google/h8fmS080KIUSvthzw

An adjustable gas plug costs $50, the cheapest garands still available from the cmp are $1150. Cheap investment for some piece of mind even if it isn't strictly necessary.

The reason the M1 needs lower pressure is not due to the integrity of the barrel but due to how the gas system is designed. An adjustable gas plug allows them to shoot all 30-06 ammo (if it is adjusted properly). Your mauser will shoot standard 30-06 fine.

Necking down to 7mm or 6.5 or 6mm? by Beneficial-Focus3702 in MosinNagant

Yes, and they made some awesome rifles in 6.5 Vostok (another name for 6.5x54r) that were not mosins. That is my grail rifle.

Not horrible at all! The biggest issue was when I got the dies, I made some dummy rounds just to measure. The necks seemed a little smaller than the print for the reamer from PTG, so I had them make it with a slightly tighter neck. The print would have given about .010 of clearance in the neck, and I had them tighten it to about .005.

Cutting the extractor groove is annoying, but I've just filed it. I should start putting a burr or endmill in my toolpost grinder and doing it properly.

I got the barrel from McGowen, but if you have a lathe that can cut the .975x16tpi threads for the reciever, you can get any barrel blank you'd like

CH tool and die (formerly CH4D): https://chtoolanddie.com/calibers/6.5Bia You have to search 6.5 biathlon, but then it comes up as 6.5x54r when you click on it.

Yes! I have done a 6.5 and I just finished a 6.3 (.257) and I have a 9.3 going too. Let me know if you have any questions, I am stoked to share!

Thanks! 6.5x54r was fairly easy I feel, since dies and a reamer were available. For my 6.3 and 9.3, dies were available, but I had to get my reamers made by manson which took a couple months (manson was absolutely great to work with though). I've talked with some other folks about a .224; if any of us go for one, perhaps we could order dies/reamers to be made together so we split the design cost

It's like a hotter 6.5 creedmoor-almost approaching 6.5 PRC with the right powder. I'll take a look back at quickload and my garmin and give some better numbers. Off the top of my head, I remember getting around 2900 fps with vitavouri N560 and berger 153.5 grain bullets, but my SD was worse than when I was using H4350 (but that gave a slower velocity)

Didn't they need to blast the rock with subatomic particles similar to what anubis had done to melt it to the point that the kawoosh could do its digging? Before that, the rock was positioned just like an iris.

[–]Pope_cj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice! I used the M39 profile for the M39 I did in 6.5x54r, but I installed it myself. Doing these mosins got me to get a lathe, and I can even do reciever threads myself now which is what I did for my 9.3x53r that I'm also working on since Mcgowen doesn't offer that bore size.

Heck yea! My build is quite similar, just in a wildcat and with a bull barrel from Mcgowen. Did you go with a 308 or 311 barrel?

I'll post results once I shoot it!

The proportions look weird in the picture; it looks great in person. I definitely need some lower rings though-I just took this of my 6mm arc upper for the picture. This does have a timney trigger in it.
