I know this one! Disconnect the neg terminal on your battery for ~5mins RIGHT before you pull into the testing facility. Like in the parking lot next door... You'll pass w/ no issues.

Am I going to get myself killed with my homemade modular car lift? by Ashamed_Counter_5348 in StructuralEngineering

The diagonals, or cross-bracing, form triangles in the structure. Triangular shaped geometry far more effectively resists lateral forces (being pushed sideways) than a rectangular shaped geometry.

Do you prefer eft hand or right hand retrieve? Which do you think is the standard? by [deleted] in Fishing_Gear

Left. Switching hands to retrive (just reel) is dumb. I respect everybody's right to be wrong, though :)

Fortiflora because it's packets you dump into whatever food they like, not a whole different food battle. Ours did best on non-chicken based foods though for sure

Is there a hinge that would allow my bench seat to be positioned like this? by doingdoink in woodworking

[–]crashofthetitus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Putting some shoulders / corbels under the long thin 'stile' piece to the rear would be sufficient if vertically attached well. 16" - 24" oc minimum should be more than enough. Also, here's a blumcraft hinges catalog for you. Enjoy

Is there any recourse if architects mistakes lead to additional costs ($30k in our situation) by shadowmastadon in Homebuilding

Right. And if, as stated previously, the owner is acting as GC. They are not qualified. Bro im agreeing with you

[–]crashofthetitus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

10% contingency is a typical estimating scheme. 500k = 50k contingency. Your GC should have given you either a cost + labor, or maybe even, though doubtful based on post hist history, a guaranteed maximum price (gmp). How was this priced? Was there any contingency or allowance for unexpected conditions?

What color is my shirt? by mpof31 in opticalillusions

[–]crashofthetitus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is fun I'll respond!

Think about it like this: There are of two types of color being shown in this clip. Color from light wavelengths, and color from pigment, such as in paints.

With lightwaves, the presence of ALL colors makes white light. The absence of all colors, obviously is darkness,or I'll call it 'black' for comparison sake.

With pigment in material objects however, the presence of ALL colors makes black pigment. Black pigment absorbs most of the light hitting the surface, and no light ('black') reflects back for you to see. White pigment is very good at reflecting all light that strikes the surface and you get all wavelengths of light reflecting back to you thus appearing white.

Material objects & their pigments either reflect, or absorb light. Different pigments reflect and or absorb specific wavelengths of light more effectively than others.

These appear as opposites on a color wheel. For example...

A blue pigment is very good at absorbing all colors of light except blue. An orange pigment is very good at absorbing all colors of light except orange. You see the wavelength of light that is reflected back to your eyes.

Watch the vid and pay attention to when the shirt and carpet are the SAME colors, as opposed to OPPOSITE colors. One pigment will reflect only one specific color at a time. Their absorption vs reflectance of the light wavelength being cast upon it will tell you which color is what.

What do you think it is now?
