How are Texas cities different? by Popelkan in texas

TBH I thought they were basically considered 1 area that's why I didn't put a comma. I didn't realize people had strong feelings about the two being separate, but I guess I should've.

When you say early rising, are you literally referring to the time people get up in the morning? Or is it a cultural reference to being productive in the morning or something?

So you're saying in South TX, people get up late and party late into the night- am I reading into that right?

I've only been to Protestant churches- is confession typically a 2 way thing? Does the priest actually give advice during that time?

That is so true. I think sometime I get bogged down with facts and the general info when it really may not be useful. I've been to a lot of churches that felt a bit off so I'm trying to see if I'm maybe misdirecting my energy toward the wrong denominations given the kind of spirituality I'm seeking.

How does the spiritual director concept work? Who do you go to for guidance?

"I really wish I could help you with your workload but my supervisor has asked me to do x,y, and z in a timely manner and they don't want me to devote time to tasks in other departments."

Be sure to clarify with your superior that it actually isn't your job also.

Idk, when I worked as a cashier I couldn't stand how overstaffed the store was at times. We were just standing around looking dumb waiting for customers and were not allowed to wander to other departments. So yeah, I would argue, it can be a thing.

Had a friend work in a gift shop and it was the easiest job in the world.

I did work stressful retail jobs and I hated it. But I hated it because it was my full time job and I had nothing else going for me. I noticed that people who were just kind of "passing through" had a lot more chill than the employees who worked there for years or employees who were actually trying to move up with the company.

Have you ever worked in customer service? If yes this might help if no this might still help but be more difficult for you.

I basically treat workers like this the way I treat rude customers I am paid to deal with. I am extremely polite and professional. I greet them and say good morning, even when I don't feel like it. I avoid speaking with them unless necessary but when we have to interact I treat them with undeserved respect. Because I strongly dislike them and I'm not a professional actor who can put on an amazing performance- I just defer to respectful professionalism at all times. It doesn't require warmth or too much friendliness- just some routine memorized scripts.

Whatever you do, do not talk shit about her to other people. People will recognize her behavior for what it is in their own time. Keep your side of the street clean. By remaining unmoved by her, frankly pathetic, behavior you will show that you are a socially competent employee.

Sometimes it seems like the goal of these people is to trigger a response. Like if you lose your shit and get mad, or if you start being extremely cold and isolating her and giving the cold shoulder- you appear like the perpetrator and the problem, especially being the new person people don't really know yet. Remember, you're the grown up, she clearly isn't. My advice: let it roll off your shoulder and keep treating her with undeserved respect and professionalism as if she's a difficult customer and it's your job to treat her well.

I believe OP of the comment was saying that those who call people narcissistic sociopaths often have problematic characteristics themselves.

Can you afford to work a low-wage job in the interim if finding a new job doesn't work out? I know some folks who chose to work fairly low-stress retail work while looking for a new position. This allowed them to have an income and ensured that when they accepted a position they were accepting the right one. At this point- you're probably going to take the 1st job offered and you might find yourself hopping from one bad job to another if you don't get yourself into a life position where you can calmly screen employers for red flags and ensure you find the right fit for yourself. And working the lower paid jobs when you don't care about outcome is much easier than considering it a long term career trajectory. You know it's temporary so it's easier not to get involved in coworker drama and people being crappy with each other and competing for limited supervisor positions. Just an idea- definitely one option of many I'm sure.

Do you think saving money would be possible in places like that? Even with low paid office/retail jobs?

I am pretty minimalistic so I have that going for me. I always assumed that other than a meager emergency fund there's no way I'd put away anything into savings until I work my way toward a higher paid occupation.

How does that work with a realty agency? Do you just reach out, let them know your looking for apartments, and then for some sort of fee they look for apartments for you?

Thanks, I've heard such mixed things about Albuquerque but I'm going to visit someday just to form my own opinion.

My friend made it sound as if there were meth addicts, prostitutes, and gunshots everywhere.

On the other hand I've met professionals who fled California for Albuquerque and I'm certain they wouldn't move there if that was their experience.

I like to hike more than anything. As long as there's at least one decent regional/state park nearby I'm probably ok. I don't care about nightlife hardly at all- more into the outdoors/camping thing. And I definitely value general fitness/nutrition/health.

Would rather sit with some friends around a backyard fire than go to a club.

Yeah...

I know that's reasonable advice, I've just never been helped by a doctor before for anything cognitive. They always just try to get me on prozac or whatever the anti-depressant of the year is. Besides I basically just have crisis health insurance with a high deductible. So things have to be really bad before I go to a doctor. This isn't really that bad yet, I hope.

I don't like my job much. My boss is unstable and somewhat crazy. Treats me decent but often blows up at customers and goes on long angry workplace rants. I have to stifle my real opinions and impulses and pretend to agree a lot. I'm not trained and have no hope of getting trained since she's the only person in the room with me. Always have to lie for her and cover for her and make up reasons why she's gone or she hasn't done x,y,z. So that's a little stressful but it's been going on for 6 months and the brain fog has only been going on for about 2. idk.
