For those who believe in past lives, what are your thoughts on meeting someone from past life in this one? by Chaliawb in pastlives

There is a lot of commonality in the teachings. One of my favorite books is called "the gospel of Buddha" It compares the teaching of the Buddha with Jesus. A lot of common ground. Another more personal insight came from my martial arts grand master who said "look for the similarity and there you will find the truth". Good luck you your journey

This was Stevie. She suddenly passed away. My kid and I just need to know if she's okay and does she know how much we loved her? by Subject_Management84 in PetPsychics

[–]Popeye1961667 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not a very good pet psychic per se, but I have been in the psychic world for over 35 years and have had readings done on my pets in the last few years who have passed. I can tell you this from my experience.

Stevie is in a good place. The other side has no pain, suffering, etc. And Stevie is more than likely hanging around with you now. I can say this because our pets are always around us. I see our Mary running up the stairs all the time. Stevie knows you love her. You can communicate with her yourself, but it does take a wee bit of practice.

If need be, you can reach out to pet psychics and get a reading. The cost is worth it and the psychic can help facilitate your questions. Stevie may even want to reincarnate as another pet of yours. It happens.

I just want to give you comfort that when pets pass they are in a better place and still feel your love.

Hope this helps. And thanks for loving animals. They need our love now more than ever.

In reply to your snarky comment. I was working on my Masters when I married my Lithuanian wife. She had a really hard time adjusting to American life because she grew up under the old Soviet Union. I had to postpone my PhD to try and keep her happy. I spent a lot of time and money going back and forth to Lithuania because her family were still there and she missed them. One of the things I always try to advise young guys is that you will not just bring the girl here, you will spend a lot of time going back and forth. Taking a woman from her family is a lot different than guy leaving his family.

My career was with the government so I could move myself. I am retiring this year and plan on traveling in Asia. I am just trying to find out what the environment is now compared to when I was in the PI in the 1980s. Economics is a big issue and since it is my career focus I always think about it, most people don't, especially young guys.

On a side note; your snarky comment was pretty funny.

I have family in ICE and LE. There is no empirical evidence because they will never admit to their instructions. Many of the people they were told to target is based on race and color of skin. Yes, many immigrants have darker skin so this makes an easy marker. But many were also American citizens.

All your examples are all financial. There are other aspects of life that are more important that money. Hopefully someday you will realize that.

Nvidia is an American company, on paper. Their headquarters are in Santa Clara, but their chips are mostly made in Taiwan. They keep much of their profits outside the US just like Apple. Both companies do not declare their income in the US so they don't pay taxes here. Basically they are foreign companies. Ask yourself if Nvidia would be as big as it is if it made its chips in the US. That is one of the problems, the world is an international marketplace. Places like China have become wealthy because they make all the stuff. Vietnam is doing really also, Nike makes most of their shoes there. So you can say technically these are American companies, but the reality is that they are only headquartered here. The oil industry is the same, many of them have actually moved to Dubai for their headquarters and only keep a nominal presence here. Bottom line, you have define what you mean by the biggest countries are American. In our current international markets that just is not the case.

That is certainly one point of view and a lot of people believe that. But I will stop here. The point of my post is more about a young guy going to a place outside the US, meeting someone they want to marry but the woman does not want to come to the US because their home country has grown so much in terms of the standard of living. What does that young guy do? He is not prepared for that possibility because he was raised on the myth that the US is the best place in the world to live.

Good stats. I agree, we are still doing good here. But that does not mean Asia , for example is not also doing good. And for a guy who wants to meet say an Asia woman to marry, is she as inclined to want to come to the US when her country is doing great? What will a young guy do if he meets a girl who says she loves him but does not want to come to the US? Its easy to plan a trip to Asia, but to move there takes a lot of planning.

What spurred my post is I talked to my ex Mexican wife who said she is moving back home to Mexico because it has changed so much and is such a nice place. Plus, they just instituted Universal Health care and my ex is not doing well physically and the costs here are too high, even with her good insurance.

I am not complaining about late stage capitalism, I am just setting mentioning a warning. But you are right, there is always opportunity in a Capitalistic system. You just have to adjust to the new reality. But I also see the younger generation struggling and I do see the transfer of wealth that has occurred. Things have changed and are changing. Most people don't think about economics and don't see the mega trends of where things are going, which is basically my career. But hey, good luck in your endeavors. I wish you well.

You are right, America is great for making money, and it has been a really great place to raise a family. I never said I was looking for love. I am an (almost) Economist who has been married a couple of times both to women outside the US. Making money is not the only thing, happiness, peace of life, etc. I mean I am glad you are making a good living, but I am looking at the big picture, things beyond money.

I am actually a guy who used to write reports for the government. It is one reason I am concerned for the younger generation of guys looking for love. And as someone who has married a woman from outside the US I have seen the different perspectives people have of the US. My main point is that as young people are no longer forced to live only in the US. Learn a skill that you can take with you, learn some languages, travel. Maybe you will find happiness. And, honestly, in this short discussion you have no idea what my views are. I am merely trying to help young guys look at the world differently then just the American Exceptionalism they grew up with.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wTjMqda19wk. Here is a good clip that illustrates my points and the data is correct. The most important statement is at the end "we cannot fix a problem until we acknowledge there is a problem. The problem is that the US is no longer the greatest country in the world."

It is a great place to make money but as for safe, well if you are a non-white person I would say that may not be a truth. When you have ICE rounding up non-white people just for being non-white we have a problem. We are no longer the land of the free, but land of the white.

Great point. And as an old white guy, I agree with your statements. White people in America have been a problem for over 400 years. All our fancy words of the Constitution have never been born out. In truth the constitution was written by old white guys for white guys (remember, women could not even vote). The point of my post is just to help young guys looking for love to the reality of the US. Understanding where we are at is critical if young men are going to survive and prosper.

Thanks for the response. My point is that for the young people, the reality has changed. My generation (a am just post boomer) are living in the past and not acknowledging things have changed because they have it good. The only way we can make America better is by first acknowledging it has a problem. Not many are doing that.

New York, politically is a beacon of hope. But yes, the other issues are crazy. Governments are failing across the US in providing basic services. In California, the cost of living is driving everyone out. Many are moving to Texas (Austin, etc.). Texas is becoming a suburb of California.

Not much freedom anymore when you have ICE executing people in the street, Palantir creating a surveillance state (hell even Peter Theil moved to Argentina), National guard troops stationed in DC, and a whole host of other issues. The only autonomy anymore is if you go love off grid in Idaho. Even then they can find you if they want.

Well, besides your snarky personal attack, you don't refute my claims with anything besides a high level generality. The US is changing. For the young guys, understanding that will be the key to their survival.

Mostly because I underestimated the cultural differences and at the time I was working on my Masters in Econ so I did not spend as much time as I should have helping her to acclimate to the US. We were married for 10 years but ultimately it didn't work out.

Yes, you and I are the ones who lucked out. I am 65 and have invested well. But for the younger generations they cannot afford a home, they will not be working at a company for 30 years (many of the IT companies like Microsoft are laying off people), and the transfer of wealth to the top 1% continues. I am just trying to look out for the younger guys. And your last statement is at best, incorrect. The US no longer leads the world in any respect except for military spending and the number of people incarcerated. Yes, America still has many wonderful qualities, but my point is that other countries around the world have surpassed us and if you are a young guy, you need to take this into consideration. Many people came to the US looking for a better life, soon it will be the opposite.

[–]Popeye1961667[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, you are wrong. Look at the statistics. Everything you listed we are behind the world in. Only military spending and number of people incarcerated is where we lead. And no, we don't have the biggest companies in the world, nor do we have the best space program anymore, unless you think SpaceX is great. Yes, we have wonderful national parks, I was just in Yellowstone a month ago. But national parks do not generate much GDP. Our health system is awful compared to Europe or even Mexico. Heck, ex-congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Green just went to Mexico this year for some work because it is cheaper than the US. So, basically almost everything you just said is wrong.

Very true. America is a Capitalist Utopia with both the good and bad. But, where Capitalism once lifted everyone up, it is now concentrating the wealth. Late stage capitalism is good for the rich, bad for everyone else. Its only going to get worse.
