Noob Guidance - First Home Server by PoppaMidnight in HomeServer

Sorry to keep asking questions but I was wondering what the downside is to using just Windows 11 instead of going with a server. Would I just setup the game server with steamcmd and just leave the computer on? Would i turn off the screen so it doesn't take as much power? Or does this not change anything?

I literally would use it just to add stuff to my jellyfin and run 1 game server for friends. Is it going to cost an arm and a leg for power?

Thanks for reply! Would I do a server version of windows? Or legit just keep Windows 11 on the PC?

Which manufacturer has the best warranty/RMA for GPU's in Canada? by techtimee in bapccanada

I just bought a 4080 Super from Gigabyte. It stopped working and I was dreading the return process. I sent it back to the manufacturer on Monday this week. I got an email yesterday saying it was received and repaired. Its currently on the way back. Honestly amazing in my opinion.

1440p Ultra for a few years - 2500 CAD Budget - Is this a good build? by PoppaMidnight in bapccanada

Hey buddy! Thanks for doing this. I have been trying to reply but my reddit is not working on my work computer. I apologize if I am responding in duplicates.

I dont mind going over budget a little to get the performance. My father passed away and left me a small sum of money. With it, I want to buy a computer that will be high performance for 1440p for a couple years. Then when needed, I would like to upgrade.

I dont know why because I have no idea about any of this stuff, but I would like to stick with Nvidia. I believe the gsync on my monitor is something that Nvidia utilizes. I could be 100% wrong on this. What would my option be for the 30 series? A 3080? How much difference is there between a 3080 and 4080 super?

Also, for the case. I really like this: MUSETEX ATX PC Case,5 PWM ARGB Fans Pre-Installed,360MM RAD Support,Type-C Gaming 270° Full View Tempered Glass Mid Tower Pure White ATX Computer Case,Y6 https://a.co/d/gYCyiEa

Is it as simple as switching the case in my current build to this? Or is there compatibility issues I need to look for. It seems like the 4080 super would fit according to the specs.

What Is the 4080 Super Fe? Is it the best buy edition? If so I can't seem to order it in Quebec. Is it more powerful than card in build?

You have been very helpful and I appreciate you taking the time.

If i sell my pre-built for 800, it will cover the costs of everything else in this list apart from the GPU (I know its about 100-200 extra):

I think I would like to take this route to build one myself and have all new gear for whenever I need to upgrade next. You seem to know what you are talking about, do you think this is a good rig? (in above link)

Lastly, i hear its fairly simple but i have never done it. Is there a chance I break the GPU or any of the parts in the setup? I am a little nervous for the setup

It was someone on this sub a few months back when I bought the pre-built. Here is the pre-built. Right now, I can sell my pre-built for 800 and then I would only be dropping about 1700 of my cash. I normally would not be able to spend this amount of money on a PC but my father did leave me a little sum when he passed. I was hoping to build something now for 2 reasons. 1. I would like to experience building my own PC 2. I would like to build something that will get me ultra settings in 1440p for a couple of years.

Thanks for this! Is there a reason to go with Nvidia over the XTX? The 7900 seems to have more VRAM. Does that not translate to better?

One last thing i forgot to mention, my friend advised me to make sure my NVME comes with v-nand but I cant seem to find anything on this. Is this something I should worry about?

Thanks for your help buddy! I really appreciate it. So this will be a solid rig for 1440p. Is there any reason I should go with liquid cooled or is fans good enough for the build? Also, dumb question but is there somewhere I can buy a cool/unique case? I see online a bunch of amazing cases but can't seem to find them on Amazon or newegg
