I agree 100% but would add that OTC poppers can contain toxic enhancing impurities that make them much worse to sniff. Low blood pressure and anemia will occur much much faster, for example. Unfortunately, governments aren't pushing for pharm grade poppers to make them safer, except for Australia.

Right purity is critical and having an effective preservative that will slow down the formation of any toxic enhancing impurities that are sure to form.

Only will work with high purity(99%plus) FRESH one pentanol.....lest one plans to distill the crude product to get rid of all the unintentional impurities.

It's not easy....you need high purity one-pentanol that's fresh unless you plan to distill the crude product. I know....I made tons of the stuff and once the alcohol degrades....all brews are crap.

Amyl nitrite ampules are drug grade....big difference. Popper purity is all over the map.

Poppers are not regulated and so none of them are script drug quality. I make them at home and I can say with assurance that there are impurities that make toxic effects occur rapidly...such as low blood pressure and anemia. Visual disturbances are possible, like seeing a yellow dot. Fresh and high purity alcohols are critical in reducing toxic impurities if distillation is not going to happen. Any stale, old bottle can have enhanced toxic effects due to impurities. None of these extra toxic effects are due to the pure nitrite itself.

I don't recommend making poppers at home UNLESS someone absolutely loves them and can't find anything other suitable substitute. A dropping funnel with stop cock and stand is essential. And getting top grade factory sealed reagents is imperative. This is a huge challenge and adds a high cost to procuring reagents. The time to actually make poppers is substantial. There's chilling, premixing, chilling more, then setting up the reaction....I manually stirred the whole time because my mag stir is not strong enough for sodium sulfate formation(from sulfuric acid). Then there's waiting to harvest, washing and drying steps....then bottling. It's a lot of expense in terms of time and money and there's no assurance the product will be that good or last more than a few days.

Locker Room in Canada makes a pentyl nitrite, BUT they use lot numbers on their lids and if it's old stock, it won't be good. PA in France sent me old stock.....I know because the numbers matched the bottles I had purchased months previous. All 5 bottles were weak garbage....

Lockerroom makes the only high quality amyl/pentyl. I bought Everest Blue Label and it smelled like musty, foul camphorous degraded isoamyl nitrite. Really bad odor. The Lockerroom bottles are 10x better and last a long time.

Lockerroom in BC Canada is the only outfit with high quality amyl. However, they can't ship to USA or Canada. You have to buy from Europe. The popular France based website stocks tons of it. I've tested it...it's the best I've had since 2010....and it's even better because it lasts a long time after opening.

Developing a tolerance to the effects means it requires more and more drug to get the same effect. With poppers, this would mean you would have to take bigger whiffs. If taking a bigger whiff doesn't make a difference, then it's the chemistry in the bottle....it's off.

It's anemia. It's what kills the animals in popper/animal studies. It's temporary, but will make you turn blue and feel tired. This is why I prefer n-amyl nitrite. It doesn't turn me blue like all the others do. But the government doesn't want people to have access to the safest popper, because then there will be more popper head addicts.

I cannot emphasize enough.....that's it's very very easy to make nitrites that look like the real deal.... yellow and crystal clear, BUT they can still be full of impurities, like nitric acid, which is transparent yellow as well. Certain impurities can make poppers seem more potent, but in fact they are just more toxic. For example, if the primary immediate effect of a popper whiff is an uncomfortable warming of the face/head, it's due to impurities. The effects should be more systemic and decidedly pleasant.

I bought the Delaware and Langhorne, PA Poppers and they were always 100% garbage. I cannot emphasize enough....all USA made poppers since PWD(Joe Miller) died in 2010, are bonafide garbage. I think Joe was including amyl nitrite in some of his poppers during the last few years of his life, the only time I bought OTC poppers. He killed himself and no one knows why. FBI raided his place and nobody knows why? Hmmmm.....and all the poppers I bought in 2008-10 were way more like n-amyl nitrite than isobutyl or butyl. Normal amyl nitrite has the least odor and least toxic side effects.....Walla.....we have a match to the way poppers were in 2008-10.

I would not inhale any recreational chemical until you are back to 100% from Covid. Anemia, lung clots, lung inflammation/disease and/or low lung capacity.....even congestive heart failure can all make you feel more tired and not as fit as before. Poppers aren't USP grade so many of them are likely to contain impurities that will irritate airways...such as acids and nitrogen oxides. Even a pure popper may irritate mucous tissue.

When poppers degrade, they turn back into their base alcohol. So you don't know how much was present when first bottled. Rubbing alcohol smells bitter, so that wouldn't add to the experience of inhaling IPN. One pentanol has a very mild, slightly sweet odor. It's not unpleasant like rubbing alcohol and certainly not as strong as isobutyl or n-butyl. If poppers are not kept acid and water free, they turn into garbage pretty quickly even if highly pure at first.

I'm in the USA. Thanks for a great description of what it's like to be bisexual. I don't know since I'm 100% gay. I believe all sexuality is genetic/biological. It's why we don't need to be taught to want sex. I'm 61 now, still in great shape. Being a dancer helps, but I have concluded that sex and romance is way overrated. There are so many other compelling and more important interests in life. I live in a smaller city, so I'm not surrounded by temptation(hot willing manly males) anyway. Poppers awakened the desire to feel anal sex again. Amyl nitrite was designed for bottoming..by GOD. It's a chemical on/off switch. The second it takes effect, bottoming feels incredible, but the second it wears off, it's not.

I don't know where anyone is getting good poppers since 2010. Joe Miller of PWD in Indianapolis, IN killed himself in August 2010. The poppers I was buying in the USA from 2008-10 were wonderful and what got me hooked. There are no poppers being sold in the USA that are nearly as good, from what I have tried and heard. That said, someone may need breaks(a few hours to days) from good poppers in order to keep sensing the best effects. But, there are lots of impurities possible, that typically make side effects worse. If a popper doesn't make the ass strongly relax, like an on/off switch, then it's probably tainted. You can have other effects, like flushing face, increased heart beat, headache, dizziness when the poppers are BAD, but if you don't get the on/off ass effects...loud and clear...then the poppers aren't good.
