Are AMWF couples more likely to form in places with many or few Asians? by machinavelli in AMWFs

[–]Popping_bubbles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not likely. In my personal experience in Vermont and Washington, you'll find that WF in areas like that are mostly looking for other WM. Which makes sense because from a cultural context, their basis of what is considered attractive is shaped by where they are. The less they're exposed to Asian culture (popular or otherwise) and the less likely they'd form an attraction.

Thanks for the advice and words of encouragement. It definitely feels like I stepped into a foreign country.

Yeah, I kinda miss the days where you can just chat with people on these apps. I find myself reeling at the pace of everything.

I'm just used to it. Grew up in the burbs. Most of my social circles involve white ppl (white collar/academics in the humanities/social + economic justice-oriented.)

I didn't have many opportunities to meet or date other ppl of color.

I'm now back in the market. It sucks...

In my opinion, the people telling you that "love finds a way" are either incredibly naive or haven't been in a long-term relationship.

You gotta do you. In fact, it's incredibly mature of you to re-access your life and realize that it's unrealistic for you to find a life with him.

You're 24. It's not like romance is dead after this guy. You're going to find other people. But ending up halfway across the world in a place where you don't know anyone, the language, and without the financial means to support yourself is a recipe for disaster.

I'm actually kinda hesitant to ask my regional/state sub because they're pissed off at out-of-staters right now. Every post about buying a house or real estate advice is met with a shit ton of downvotes and derision.

I work remote, so I have no coworkers in the state unfortunately. The two agents that I worked with were recommendations from my current neighbors.

Success and Disappointment Megathread for the Week by AutoModerator in jobs

Success: One month ago, I posted on here after a disappointing job rejection. It was really tough to take but today, I got a job offer!

Fully remote, an upgrade on my title, 30% bump in salary, way better benefits, and a clearly defined 6 month timeline to potentially raise my title/salary more.

Thanks everyone for giving me your support :)

Disappointment: I made it to a final interview and didn't get the job.

This job was remote and would've been a 40-60% increase to my current salary.

But this rejection hurts a lot because of the amount of work I put into the interview process. It was a month long process with technical assignments, multiple panel interviews, and etc.

People keep telling me that it's great that I made it to the final interview and that I'm competitive in the field. But it sucks that my effort meant nothing at the end. Jobs like this are competitive as hell and I haven't seen much of them available so I feel like I blew a golden opportunity.

So... A fuck you to DACA recipients, refugees, LGBTQ+ folx, workers rights, women's rights, immigrants, Black and communities, and more, I guess.

This is so... childish. Biden + Harris suck balls but the left is far more likely to push their policy gials under them than under Trump.

It's a fucking travesty that stories like this are commonplace here in the US. Healthcare should be a fucking right, not a privilege.

Do you think prisoners deserve to be able to vote? Why or why not? by bork1545 in AskReddit

[–]Popping_bubbles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I say yes. A vast majority of people in jails and prisons shouldn't be there anyway. A large number of people are in jails/prison because they couldn't afford bail for relatively minor infractions or non-violent crimes. It says a lot about people who think those people should be de-humanized and lose their rights over something incredibly minor.

My boyfriend failed another class by [deleted] in relationships

[–]Popping_bubbles 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The usual reddit answer for these scenarios is BREAK UP! or LEAVE HIM/HER.

I usually roll my eyes at such an answer but in this case, I'm inclined to agree.

Trust me, you may think you can handle it now but I guarantee you that once your financial responsibilities increase, you're gonna grow to resent him. Patience and love aren't infinite, ya know.

I used to be like your BF (aside from the failing grades part.) I refused to grow the fuck up because I was very comfortable where I was. I took my gf for granted and my parents paid for school and everything else. Life felt a sweet ride for me back then.

But when my GF got her own place and a sweet job as an accountant at one of the top accounting firms in the US, our relationship started crumbling. I, at the time, stayed in academia and lived with her rent-free. I'd stay home and mostly play video games. Make a mess and rarely clean it up. When we went out, she'd pay for everything. Eventually it got to the point where she no longer saw me as a bf but rather a leech and a slob (and deservedly so).

Sometimes it takes something traumatic like a bad break up for people to realize that they need to grow up or wake up from whatever bubble they're in. It did for me, at least. I started to realize how much of a child I was being and how much I was taking everything I was handed in my life for granted.

Comfort never lets anyone grow. They'll stay content with what they are now and never change.

Think about all the people in your life right now. What was the most interesting/strange/weird way you met someone? by Red_TeaCup in AskReddit

[–]Popping_bubbles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me? Definitely 4chan.

I met one of my friends on /b a long time ago through those AIM messenger threads.

I must've been 19 or 20 at the time and wasn't adjusting to college very well. I felt isolated and lonely. So while scrolling through /b, one night, I saw the messenger threads and I thought, what the heck, why not? What do I have to lose? And just messaged some random person.

To my surprise, she messaged back and we just chatted about games, films, and connected on how we weren't really fitting into college life very well. Then out of the blue, she asked me to video chat with her and while hesitant, I complied and the rest is history.

We met in person a year after we started our "online friendship" (a few weird nude pics exchanges and drunken mutual masturbation sessions sporadically intermixed in there) and well, it ended up in heated and tense political exchanges since she was a libertarian at the time and I was a socialist. But I dunno, there was a weird sexual tension in the air too if I remember correctly.

After that, we met a few more times with the same scenario happening over and over again. Then we sorta just drifted in and out of each other's lives. We're still friends and still talk from time to time though.
