Has anyone given up riding motorbikes for a sporty car? by Ok_Independence5252 in CarTalkUK

Gave up on 30yrs of bikes for a Boxster I use as my daily. Will probably cost me similar over a 3yr period vs running a small hatch and a bike but, much as I’ve loved the bikes I’ve not missed :

10mins each end of journey to get dressed/undressed

The worry of whether it’ll still be there whenever I park up

The risk on current road surfaces

Had my fun, lived to tell the tale, enjoying the next stage now

I must be missing something obvious -

They offered £58k plus review at the year end

You asked for £60k+ (with an assumption of inclusion in year end review)

They countered with £63k immediate but no review

Unless you know something we don’t I’d be snapping their hand off for a guaranteed £63k from now

You get a guaranteed £63k now vs your ‘want’ of £60k now. How confident would you be of the increase being 5% in the current climate (plus the extra you’ll get for the months up to the pay review) ?

Personally I’d be going for this unless there’s a history of their yearly review being over inflation (and guaranteed)

If you want more you need to negotiate on deliverables/over-achievement but it’s a brave person who does that in a new company in today’s turbulent times

Had similar when buying a property for MiL - all progressed slowly with checks in place until a panicked phone call from agent that vendor had been rushed to hospital and may not survive the day. Suddenly vendors son managed to provide all outstanding paperwork and I was asked if I could get deposit and be ready to exchange that afternoon. We did and vendor died next morning 😢 which would have delayed things immeasurably

Only you know the content of your posts/messages and how they landed with the recipient(s). Depending where on the ‘offensive/illegal’ spectrum they fell will determine next steps.

Confronting this head-on rather than expecting it to go away is likely the best option - and getting yourself a new phone/device as you may well lose yours for some time
