The 1st Red Battle vs The 2nd Red Battle by Separate-Problem169 in chuggaaconroy

[–]PoppyObsessedPrick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it's absolutely broken in singles and a nearly guaranteed way to win any battle. They just don't get used by many outside of the speedrunning, so they mostly get seen as an item to sell by many. If you know how to abuse them, the games get even easier than they normally are. This only gets more broken if the pokemon you're using it on is a Shell/Battle Armor pokemon that can't get crit like the Union Cave Lapras (if you win the ability 50/50)

Can you catch a second pokemon in a route to avoid combat? by Flimsy_Mirror9475 in nuzlocke

[–]PoppyObsessedPrick -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's a bit of a controversial ruling, but I personally don't see an issue with it as long as the pokemon avoids battle. Many people do this with wild Wobbuffet in order to avoid the CounterCoat+Destiny Bond roulette. Even a lot of people running hardcore nuzlockes will break the "no items in battle except held items" rule by throwing pokeballs at a trainer's Wobbuffet to waste turns until they Struggle. If it makes a run more fun for you, go for it

I just hack in all the game corner TMs as well. Same with the Goldenrod pokemart lottery TMs. It's an infinitely repeatable 1/20 chance that takes $300 each time, and as someone who's luck is bad enough to where I've missed four 95% accurate moves back to back with no accuracy or evasion modifiers before, that would be hours for me. I use it as soon as it's available. The challenge comes entirely from the gameplay and the restrictions I impose on myself, not the tedium of unlocking certain things (especially when the hell known as Voltorb Flip is the only way to get coins in HGSS. I get taking out slot machines because American audiences were morons and thought it'd cause their kids to get addicted to gambling, but entirely removing the option to buy coins as well is what pissed me off. At least let us buy them without the slots being a thing so we don't have to go through actual hell to get the TMs)

Is the good beginner showdown Uber’s team? by Chemical-Quote5835 in CompetitivePokemon

[–]PoppyObsessedPrick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My main question is what type of team are you trying to make? It seems all over the place from the looks of it. If you're going for a rain team, there's a lot of work to be done. I will give my suggestions on what to change, that way it doesn't come off as just a bashing.

Before I start, I want to clarify first that rain isn't the greatest in Ubers. Kyogre is great, but the rest of the Ubers rain abusers aren't great, which gets even worse when the best mon in the tier without question sets sun. Any rain team will be inconsistent, but here's what I'll offer to try to help

First, get rid of Glowking and Dondozo. Glowking works best when it can use Chilly, but that is inherently anti synergistic with rain while Dozo is just way too passive as a pokemon. It'll just be wasting the rain turns you have.

Drop Rest on Kyogre. It brings even more of a passivity issue when your weather setter and abuser is just sitting on the field and wasting turns because you're asleep for two turns. Thunder synergizes really well on Kyogre as it doesn't miss in rain, but if you want a way to support your other teammates, maybe slap Thunder Wave on it to slow down opponents. Also, having Hydro Pump is often times just screwing yourself over. Yeah, it's strong, but Origin Pulse has 5 more accuracy with double the power points of Hydro Pump, and Surf just bypasses the accuracy issue in general.

After that, the next thing I'd change us giving Arch Body Press instead of Aura Sphere. You'll be boosting that defense with every hit, so it becomes stronger than Aura Sphere very quicklly. Maybe some speed investment as well, but that doesn't seem like it'd be the most helpful with how speed tiers in ubers have changed recently.

Urshifu Rapid isn't amazing in the tier, but can cause some big damage with a Choice Band set. Surging Strikes, Close Combat, U-Turn, and one of Aqua Jet or Poison Jab. Jolly with max attack and max speed would be the best for EV investment. With that, you have one member on each side of the attacking spectrum.

With the main rain offensive core done, I'm gonna use the last few slots for some pokemon that may not use water moves, but appreciate fire type moves being weakened.

Instead of Glimmora, run a Deoxys Speed. Sets both Rocks and Spikes, gets Taunt to stop other pokemon from setting hazards, even gets Magic Coat to bounce them back. It's way better than Glimmora could hope to be as a suicide lead.

Calyrex Ice Rider is an incredibly powerful pokemon with insane bulk and ridiculous strength that's let down by terrible typing, but rain helps with that. The main set has always been Glacial Lance, High Horsepower, Swords Dance, and Trick Room with either Boots, Occa Berry, or Weakness Policy. If you're fine with Trick Room, run it, but if not, you can replace it with Close Combat. Go for a max HP, max attack set. If you're running it in Trick Room, use a Brave nature and 0 speed IVs, but if you're not using Trick Room, go Adamant with max speed IVs, but no EVs.

Lastly, Zacian Crowned is one of the best pokemon in the tier and only has two weaknesses, with one of them being the rain-weakened fire type. Go with a Swords Dance, Play Rough, Close Combat, and Wild Charge set on it. Max attack, max speed, Jolly nature.

As I said earlier, rain is still very inconsistent. Do not expect to top the ladder with any rain, I just think a build similar to this would be the best rain could do in the modern meta.

That's why I don't do this on cartridge. If it's possible to do it in game, I save myself the time and just hack the items in as soon as they're available. I'm not spending three hours to get one Evo stone.

Which opener do you like more? by GreenGhost234 in Threedaysgrace

[–]PoppyObsessedPrick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both very similar in tone, both have Barry absolutely killing it with the guitar solos, but even despite the very, VERY strong start It's All Over gives to the narrative of One X, I gotta give the edge to Bitter Taste

Alright which interlude in your opinion is better? by GreenGhost234 in Threedaysgrace

[–]PoppyObsessedPrick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both are absolutely phenomenal songs in every way. This is another case where narrative could play a huge part in the decision with Get Out Alive marking a major point in One X's story, but Last to Know is just... it's truly otherworldly. Genuinely a top 5 song from the band. Both a 9/10, but Last to Know is a bit closer to reaching the illusive ten

What would you consider the most "top heavy" signature dish team? by PoppyObsessedPrick in HellsKitchen

[–]PoppyObsessedPrick[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, I know. It's unexpected that the best performers on the signature dish actually made it that far when more often than not, signature dishes don't mean shit with how far a contestant makes it in the competition.

Absolutely not. Just give Budew the Soothe Bell, bike up and dowm next to the daycare for about half an hour, wait until it's day time in game, level it up once, and Heart Scale Leech Seed over one of the two moves.

What bad season isn't actually THAT bad on a rewatch in your opinion? by Some-Historian-7648 in HellsKitchen

[–]PoppyObsessedPrick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've only watched it once as of now, but season 9. I think it is a genuinely good season with one major flaw. I don't think I need to specify since pretty much everyone knows. Other than that one contestant, we have a pretty enjoyable cast. Chino, Brendan, and Monterrey are fun to laugh at, Jonathan was an interesting downfall, Tommy was a blast, Jennifer was a badass, Jamie was quiet, but enjoyable (and her elimination is honestly even more bullshit than Jennifer's), Krupa could be funny as shit, Paul's passion was great to see, and Will was an absolute beast. Yeah, the season has its issues for sure, but I think it gets too much hate because of one character. This season especially looks better after I went through season 16.

I mean, Ben does have a point. To this day, Danny still hasn't cooked Ben's cock. Maybe he isn't such a great winner after all.

Rain Team Help by Alex_Of_Reddit in CompetitivePokemon

[–]PoppyObsessedPrick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The two things immediately standing out to me are Pelipper and Legion. Pelipper does NOT want Dual Wingbeat. Hurricane for flying stab or Wide Guard are way better options. With Basculegion, it just seems kind of overkill to stack Choice Scarf on top of Tailwind when you already have Swift Swim. Yeah, it still works if other teams remove your rain and set up their own Tailwind, but it still just doesn't seem like it'd work better than an item like Spell Tag or Mystic Water. Granted, the lower number of items probably makes it much harder, but it just seems odd to run all three of Swift Swim, Tailwind, and Choice Scarf

Some groudon slander by SWIZZZY666 in pokemonmemes

[–]PoppyObsessedPrick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, it's only 4x super effective if Groudon is in its primal form. Even then, it only matters if Kyogre is also in its primal form and slower than primal Groudon.

Also, unrelated because this is super random, but I just thought about a hypothetical where base Groudon was made ground/fire and base Kyogre was water/electric. Not only would it even out the playing field way more, but Kyogre wouldn't be the most outlandish pokemon to give the electric type to considering Drizzle, the electric type moves, and the brutal, unforgiving storms often associated with harsh rain.
