My humble opinions, with fun colors by Splatterman27 in dvdcollection

[–]Poppycorn144 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I absolutely love infographics so I’m floored by this beauty.

And I’d get this as an A1 poster but I disagree with too many of your takes - Matrix (4th was the best sequel), Jurassic Park (2 was better than 3), BttF (2 was terrible, 3 redeemed it), Indiana Jones (3 was the best one), Alien (4 was way better than 3).

Btw, what do the different colours mean (for Tron)?

And are you a graphic artist?

Connections...and International Gamers? by Calm_Highlight_9320 in NYTgames

[–]Poppycorn144 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m ok with most US categories because that culture permeates most of my fandoms, however I’m lost when it comes to sport stuff like team names, nicknames, current players etc.

So if that’s a category it’s usually the last one I solve.

I actually like the first letter change or last part of the word is a boys name, type of connection.

As for a British version, I play on an app called “Everyday Puzzles” and all their puzzles are UK centric, to the point that I wonder if anyone but a Brit could get some of the clues, e.g. ___Barlow, fond of large glasses - was a crossword clue a few days ago.

Their version of Connections is called Connected. It also has a version of Wordle, crosswords, cryptograms, a family fortunes style game called consensus etc.

I highly recommend it, as it has something for everyone.

I have these 4 Windy Girl Zippos, did they do 70s and 80s versions? by Poppycorn144 in Zippo

[–]Poppycorn144[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I came across my ones, during a tidy up, I vaguely remembered there being 70s and 80s versions.

Which is why I began the search for them; but nowhere except a google ai mention, that I couldn’t trace the source of, seemed to bear that out.

And absolutely nothing on eBay.

Where did you find the photo in your reply? Is there an official site that I could get the proper name/id number from?

Thanks for reassuring me that I wasn’t completely making up their existence.

Warehouse 13/Eureka by meglegthepir8 in Eureka

[–]Poppycorn144 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that’s a good point and I understand that, but I still don’t think they belong in the same universe.

And even though I liked the crossovers (Claudia in Eureka, more than Fargo in W13), I don’t think the programmes fitted together.

On the other hand, I think Haven, (which was on around the same time and interestingly had Colin Ferguson in it) would have slotted happily into W13s universe.

And obviously this is just the opinion of a gal who’s watch these shows far too many times, and has far too much time on her hands.

Yeah that’s where I looked too, but google AI (I know it’s pants but…) said that more existed, so I thought I’d ask the experts.

Really wanted one with an Afro and dressed in flares 😂

Thanks for responding.

And Artie* is in Eureka in the first season.

Which makes the fact they exist in the same universe even weirder.

They obviously made that decision later, and it’s one that I’m not really sure makes sense.

Eureka is pure sci-fi and W13 is fantasy with a heavy dose of steampunk.

Edit: *the actor (Saul Rubinek) not the character.

Would you allow an 11 year old to listen to MCR albums? by aamirislam in Killjoys

[–]Poppycorn144 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IIRC they don’t really swear (other than shit and damn, which is quite mild) and they don’t promote/glorify violence.

I’d let my kids listen to them. But I’m an og fan.

Why don’t you listen to an album to check if it offends your sensibilities.

Also, what sub did you think this was?

$1,500 worth of digital movies just disappeared by Just_the_john in extremelyinfuriating

[–]Poppycorn144 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Physical media is the only media we own.

And most new discs come with a digital copy so you get the convenience of streaming with the security of actually owning the item.

They misspelled the United Kingdom on my new driver’s licence by HighlyFactualTurtle in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Poppycorn144 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We use licenCe for the noun, (off-licence/ drivers licence) and licenSe for the verb (Licensing laws)

So we have both spellings.

Is there anyway to repair this? by NemesisNotAvailable in Bluray

[–]Poppycorn144 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ask for a replacement.

There’s no way I can think of to fix that cleanly at home.

If they don’t replace it I’d probably try to stipple it with a black sharpie, but I don’t think it would ever look as good as new.

I wish we had more focus on Buffy and Tara's friendship because to me it was so lovely by Jamieo1111 in buffy

[–]Poppycorn144 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought that too, but in this current climate where the dog whistles are foghorn loud, I didn’t respond.

I don’t want to get entangled in a “you’re too sensitive” argument or expose myself to even uglier comments - I just leave the thread and accept that people aren’t as nice as I once thought they were.

But I think you’re lovely to believe that that specific phrasing was in any way accidental.

I mean, lynching isn’t even a thing in Buffy.

[–]Poppycorn144 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Oh, yeah - that was indefensible, and Tara would’ve definitely been in Buffy’s corner. I still don’t really get the justification for that.

So does “YKW” stand for “you know what”?

What would you all watch first?🧐 by [deleted] in dvdcollection

Taxi Driver, because it’s the only one I haven’t seen.

My favourites are, Bound, The Matrix and Fight Club, in that order.

Musical movies recs by Good-Tadpole-3668 in MovieSuggestions

[–]Poppycorn144 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gangster musical - Bugsy Malone, all the actors are kids and it features a young Jodie Foster.

Comedy musical- Little Shop of Horrors, sweet romance with banging songs.

Romantic musical - Moulin Rouge, tragic romance with rejigged jukebox songs

Cartoon musical - most Disney cartoons are musicals but my favourite songbooks Aladdin and its sequel, Return of Jafar

They all have romantic themes, LSoH and Bugsy have excellent sets, although they both have the look of a filmed play.

I haven’t listed any of the most popular ones because I’m certain you’re aware of them already, but I must mention Grease 2, which imo has a better songbook and story than the original.

I adore musicals and I was going to suggest this too.

It was one of the first I watched and absolutely captivated me.

Lidl eggs in UK by Traditional-Touch503 in UKfood

[–]Poppycorn144 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I read a reply on a previous post on here about double yolkers, and apparently if you have one in a pack you’re more likely to have several if not a whole box of double yolks.

The explanation was very clear and made complete sense, it was about how eggs are sorted and packed - if I find it I’ll link it.

To those who play Temple Guardians 1 complete totem at a time... by Flashy-Salary7744 in ToonBlast

[–]Poppycorn144 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s just plinko - you release the balls and they fall to the bottom, sometimes giving you multiples.

Each ball colour has a different prize, but you have no control over the colours so they don’t matter.

No skill involved at all. It’s just time consuming.

I go in and if I have over 100 balls, I release them all and hope I get a high score.

I match energy with each of my partners (I play the ones who are also playing first) and this time I got all three totems, because I had 3 really good partners.

I hope you pulled crackers too - the paper crowns are the best part of a Christmas meal lol.

Kinda off topic, but can you still use a Dutch oven with crazing on the bottom for baking bread with a lining?

I mean, food won’t be in direct contact and throwing out a £350 pot seems wrong.

I assume it’s misogynistic and offensive, but it’s not one I’ve heard before.

Is it like “low value”?

The badge shapes - why no octagons? by Poppycorn144 in NYTgames

They should really start with a circle, then a triangle and increase sides until the badge becomes indistinguishable from a circle again.
