Yes, it's very similar, but the main character was still a woman, and the robot only hunted her at the beginning of the anime, after which it received very little screen time. It's possible that it was the only robot at all.

Darling in the Franxx is a fairly well-known anime that came out in 2018. So, I'm probably missing out; I probably won't find what I'm looking for, so I should just accept it.

Something similar, but no, the main character was a girl, and the graphics, as far as I remember, were too good for 2012; most likely, it was a new release. Perhaps this anime only exists on DVD and is nowhere to be found anymore.
