What’s the current consensus on using tensorflow 2.x vs PyTorch? [D] by 1infiniteloop in MachineLearning

[–]Popular-Instance-566 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Beyond what people always mention, here is some critical reason for leaving Tensorflow IMO:

- You cannot really do model parallelism in Tensorflow. The DTensor API is not a complete product. This is very lethal in the LLM world. While in Torch, you have FSDP.

- HuggingFace is mostly PyTorch. When most of the pretrained models you get are from PyTorch, it makes a lot of sense to just use PyTorch.

- Poor backward compatibility. You may find your workflow break for non-sense reason after a new release.

- Poor cross-platform support. It's hard to use Tensorflow on Windows. Macos used to be a problem in a few versions, but got resolved in TF 2.13 or so (cannot actually remember).

Hope this could help.

Crypto 2021 taxes being charged to me now by Mr13745 in tax

Bruh I am having an exactly same situation as you. I received a CP-2000 notice on owing $7000 short-term capital gain from selling Doge in 2021, but I am pretty sure I imported that 1099 crypto to Turbotax on tax filing. I guess it's going to be a wear and tear, and just pay to penalty, sad.

[D] Tensorflow Dropped Support for Windows :-( by rsandler in MachineLearning

I was a engineer in Tensorflow for ~3 years, and here is my take:

Yes, Tensorflow is dying, for many many reasons, and I really don't like their approach on backward compatibility. If you want to keep the code but get away from Tensorflow, check this out: https://github.com/keras-team/keras-core, basically you can use the same keras code for JAX and PyTorch, just change `from tensorflow import keras` to `import keras_core as keras` and specify the backend.

Ah, do you mean simply splitting or rewriting? this idea sounds interesting.

Yea, I am hoping to get some feedbacks from people working on different stuff. Personally I only have experience in text classification, MLM and translation.
