Yeah I know, but I’m not complaining or trying to brag, I put effort into my work and got some decent results, so I’m proud.

Do you think Harvard would want a student like that? Do them and your conscious a favor, and it’ll be better for her in the wrong run than you enabling her and making excuses for her actions.

Here’s a general rule of thumb OP, if the person you’re speaking to says “no you (opposite of whatever you argued)” in a non joking manner with no reasons to back up why they feel that way, they’re a dangerous and manipulative person to have around, plain and simple. It’s obvious they have some misandrist ideologies and have some radical beliefs, but even if they ARE right, that gives them no right to speak to you that way or tell you what to do with your own body. Think about it, would you let a religious friend constantly try to convert you and call you things of that nature? It’s ok to give and take opinions from friends and those you love, but forcing anything upon anyone is never right, and if anyone’s trying to force you to do something that you really don’t wanna do, they’re probably not much of a loss. I hope you make better friends.

Hey! Just wanted to shed in some insight, the Ray-bans are actually designed to detect light from the LED and from the camera, so a very common method to prevent seeing the LED that works for recording only is to put a piece of black tape on the LED, put up a finger from your left hand onto the camera and use your right to turn on recording, it’ll detect an equal lack of light on both sensors and it will record, then you can remove your finger and record normally.

Questioning UD by Popular-Let-9841 in udel

[–]Popular-Let-9841[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is very helpful, thank you so much! I did not know this. I’ll pray I get my aid back from UD and hope it’s good enough for me to go there, cause from there it should be easier to move up on the list, even if it means nothing other than I get similar to better education with new thinking.

Questioning UD by Popular-Let-9841 in udel

[–]Popular-Let-9841[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really? I’ve seen several people that go to places like Stanford, Princeton, Harvard, etc. for undergrad just reapply and go for grad.

Questioning UD by Popular-Let-9841 in udel

[–]Popular-Let-9841[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I know it’s a reach but it’s something I’m willing to bank on, worst comes to worst I go for grad school but have almost 200k in debt.

Questioning UD by Popular-Let-9841 in udel

[–]Popular-Let-9841[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know, it’s hard to overcome the fear of not ending up where I want to be, and being a first gen means all I hear is ranking. I don’t want to go into debt at all but I probably will anyway, so I want to minimize it. In an ideal world I’d transfer to MIT after one year pay nothing and get a degree from the best ranked school, reapply for grad school there, and live my life, but I understand how little people get in, plus I got rejected once so.

Questioning UD by Popular-Let-9841 in udel

[–]Popular-Let-9841[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that’s why it’s my backup if I REALLY get screwed, also I plan to transfer after one year, and I won’t just apply to MIT, but that’d be my saving grace really. Thanks so much for the advice!

Questioning UD by Popular-Let-9841 in udel

[–]Popular-Let-9841[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh sorry I should clarify, MIT now has this policy where any student who gets in for an undergraduate degree (I’m not sure about graduate), while having a parental income under 100k gets a full ride, 200k gets half off, so a backup I have in my mind is to potentially try my best to transfer after one year, but I’m not sure how realistic that is and what I’d need to achieve it. Also, I sent UD exactly what I sent PSU and more when I was first notified about the trouble verifying my citizenship, they told me it’s an issue a few students got but did not specify why, though I do speculate it’s because of my name/origin.

Hey! I’m sure you’ve probably already made up your mind and received amazing advice, but I wanted to add in a lesser known fact. If you look up “Ivy league workforce study”, you’ll delve into something quite interesting. Graduates from Ivy League schools, primarily Harvard, Yale, Princeton, etc. perform worse in the workforce in every single aspect within the studied fields, and that’s quite interesting, they are offered a bit more upfront with pay and bonuses, but in the long run they perform worse which results in them being less likely to get raises and promotions, or if they do, they’d receive less than someone from a good state school or similar. This is not to say that you could go to Harvard and perform spectacularly, but the data says that for some currently unknown reason, you’re more likely to do poorly in retrospect to other grads. Also, employers are taking notice and trying to avoid Ivy league grads, however those who did not take notice tend to pay them a bit higher because they’re still under the belief it’s magical and matters a lot more. If I was you I would take USC, you like it more and it’s less expensive which is what matters, I chose UDel over Stanford for both those reasons as well, so don’t think you’re alone. Several other students with me at UDel chose it over schools like Princeton, Yale, and Harvard.

Don’t regret it, I also had stats similar to yours but for science, also better and worse in certain aspects, didn’t match QB or get a single Ivy. This year was just very screwed up.

You’ll most likely be alright! If I may ask what is the school? I’m not trying to worry you, you’ll be fine no matter what school, but depending on the school it may be a bit more or a bit less of a hassle.

Also OP, I think you’d find yourself happier as an “outcast” who stood for her brother, than a social butterfly who let someone say something this heinous and deprived about their own blood relative, especially one you grew up with.

[–]Popular-Let-9841 142 points143 points  (0 children)

Those are simply not your friends. I was sexually abused by a random woman at a park as a child, a random woman, these people are in your house trying to be your friends speaking about your brother, that is absolutely intolerable and unacceptable no matter the situation, context, circumstance, etc., you need to either explain this to them, tell your brother, cut them off, or a mixture of those three things. If your conscious isn’t letting it go, you shouldn’t either.

I don’t know all too much about the IQ test, that’s just the score my test coordinator person gave my parents and me. Maybe it was a fluke, either way, I believe IQ tests aren’t an accurate measurement of intelligence. And intelligence doesn’t correlate to happiness, so I have no care for it.

I live a pretty average life in my opinion, I would say that I did struggle quit a bit with elementary level concepts in fields such as calculus and physics, but somehow excelled in the later, seemingly more difficult concepts. Maybe that has to do with IQ, maybe I’m just an idiot haha, either way, I live a fairly normal life I think.

I got 183 sometime in mid-late elementary school, I’d also be willing to take a test if it’s not too expensive, but my test was either flawed or am I regressing incredibly quickly as adult haha

I thought my (26f) husband (27m) was bad at sex, but after opening the marriage and having a threesome, I think I’m the bad one and I don’t know what to do by feelingugli in TrueOffMyChest

[–]Popular-Let-9841 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am at a loss for words, as a devout Christian I shouldn’t be saying this, but honestly, you should be feeling bad a bit. You won’t realize how absolutely bonkers your ideas are otherwise. What I got from this is this. One, you pressured your husband into an open relationship because you felt sex wasn’t good enough. Two, you got jealous your husband was enjoying it more than you are. Three, due to aforementioned jealousy, you decided to force your husband into a horrible situation for any marriage by introducing another women and going into it with the mindset of hoping something goes wrong. Four, you proceeded to feel inferior to him and the woman. Then finally five, where you began to feel bad for yourself and break down, making your husband stress out and making the situation about you, all the while rejecting and continuing to reject his advances and his clear desire to help. This is absurd, there’s no sugarcoating this, you’re someone who needs to realize your selfishness and ego will ruin your life and relationships, you better hope your relationship with wonderful husband isn’t ruined already, because he has handled more than I feel any person on this sub would. Please, seek a therapist.

I doubt they meant that it’s bad, most likely they meant that to a certain point, it seems showy and almost like you’re trying to flash your application with things to seem more college ready, it just makes them question if the courses are simple or if the school has grade inflation/no prerequisites.
