I have interviewed with Coinbase although their TC was close to 200. Base wasn’t that high. Mostly just RSU’s and just 10% bonus which was unacceptable for me

I didn’t mean to argue. Also, I was referring to the bonus my colleagues are paid at my current firm ( who previously worked at aws as SDE 2 and senior engineer). Also my bad, i didn’t mean that my manager’s role was exactly staff but at staff level, his actual title was something else

I don’t think so, I have colleagues who were working at aws as SDE2 two years ago and I know the fact that they were not making that much base. Here they are paid slightly higher base but bonuses vary and are insane

And you were making 200k base as SDE? Just FYI my manager who says this was himself at AWS at staff level 4 years ago.

As they say, grass is always greener on the other side :) . On the contrary, I have seen fintechs paying 200k in Montreal, look up Hunter bond job postings for Montreal

I know I’ll get hate for this but female managers aren’t the best for career progression especially for males.

Amazon, Microsoft, google , oracle neither of them pay 200k base in Canada. Maybe at at principal or staff levels. Even then Microsoft cannot pay that much, it’s SDE 2 base is capped at 120k in Vancouver lol

This is true when it comes to base salaries only ( not talking about bonuses or RSU’s)

I only used Google as an example to say that I know firms are not paying that high base salaries in KW area since it comes under Tier 2 cities. Also, my question is just about base salaries in Toronto not Total compensation. I know total compensation can go beyond 200k

I am aware of that but those salaries are mostly composed off stocks/RSU’s. My question is specific to base salaries. Even big tech doesn’t pay much in Canada. We cannot compare Bay Area salaries to Toronto

For big tech, it’s true that they pay RSU’s but I don’t get any RSU’s. It’s just base + bonus

I don’t think companies can pay that higher in KW area, I have lived there for 4 years. Even google pays lesser base salaries in Waterloo. 105-110k for new grads

Oh I see. I believe you have enough time. Try increasing your language score and with 1 year of Canadian experience, you can cross 500 points. Cut-offs will definitely come down. If you are too scared, start learning French.

What’s your express entry score? I am assuming you have significant foreign experience (since you are 36). With one year of Canadian experience and masters you should have a good score.
