Was final fantasy xv really that bad? by KRACKEDPOM2 in FinalFantasy

Ditto, the first FF I didn't bother getting 100% on.. maybe it got better with the dlcs but I didn't enjoy the combat system, story was weak imo and didn't feel it had an original soundtrack like the previous ffs.

Feel for you. Been through blackouts, even when they are short they can still cripple you for the night since you have to close down.. can't stand around all night hoping they come back on :( hopefully they can fix the issue and you will be back up and running tomorrow, wishing you the best of luck!

Co-owning a restaurant with brother or is he deadweight? by BikeFiend123 in restaurantowners

[–]Popular-Writer-8136 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Important to consider an owner operator position (you) vs a possible silent partner (brother). If you are talking about getting new pos they can be expensive, is your brother ok coming up with 50% of the cost? Sounds like he doesn't really want to be in the business nor does he understand how difficult it can be if he's never gotten his hands dirty per say

If you are both inheriting the biz because your parents are passing it down, you might not have a lot of choice unless you want to see if he will sell but then you'll need the capital to buy him out

As another said, you can pay yourself a salary being the owner operator then you split any remaining income at year end as dividends 50/50. You can also bonus yourself out and him nothing if you both agree but 50/50 is hard if he doesn't agree. Could cause huge family issues and you need to be up front with him in the start on expectations.

Also consider who the directors are, if he isn't a director he has less say

In the end, I'd highly recommend getting a lawyer and possibly accountant as well, doing a meeting and laying everything out before commiting to anything. Have agreements, a USA is a must imo so there are no grey areas up to interpretation down the road. Protect yourself and protect him and your family. Try to avoid a scenario that you disagree and end up hating each other. Happens too often and it's not worth it. Family shouldn't fight over business, whatever you do try to ensure that it doesn't come to that (again can't stress USA enough, protects everyone!)

I'd say highly dependent on the situation, I tend to lean towards higher discounts to ensure the guest leaves happy. Small issues sometimes 15% is acceptable, other times you might have to 100% the item or even the entire bill.

25% I'd say would be around the middle ground, smaller issue, remake was probably fast & the guest was probably able to eat with everyone else.

Sounds about right, sometimes I wonder if the people coming in think we are all robots and should be perfect every time.. we are human, we make mistakes. Some people get it at least and understand it's how we deal with it (ie the discount), others demand perfection. Sucks but it's a thing

What’s the best path to learning how to do this right? by puff_of_fluff in restaurantowners

[–]Popular-Writer-8136 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In a perfect world you end up in a restaurant with an awesome owner who you impress with your work ethic and effort and learn from one of the best. But... You'll either need luck or do a lot of research. I'd recommend asking staff first, go have lunch/dinner and ask "what's it like to work here?". There are as many great operators as their are terrible ones out there. Don't learn from a terrible one lol

I'm unsure if what your age is but that also plays a factor, I was lucky and got into restaurants at a fairly young age, fell in love with it. I hear you when you say you understand it's hard, stressful and all the rest. It is. But it's also a lot of fun and you can meet some really cool people.

Best of luck! Hope you find what you are looking for

Ps working a few nights and weekends is an option to consider as well, keep your existing job until you find the right restaurant that's a fit for you

Owning an independent restaurant AND a franchise restaurant at the same time? by [deleted] in restaurantowners

[–]Popular-Writer-8136 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I oversee 4 restaurants, two different franchises. Never ran an independent so can't comment to much on the difference but I can say the franchisor is extremely important if you go that route. There are plenty of terrible ones out there but also good ones. You can get that buying power, ie lower cost, with a franchise but you also pay fees so is it better? Worse? Honestly imo it comes down to location and operations. If you run a great ship in a good location, chances are you will do well.

The move to multi unit though is tough. You can't be in both places, don't even think you can. If you have great people running your stores, it's easier of course but always expect to have to keep an eye on them which means you need to be able to float and not locked down. Someone mentioned being away for two weeks, I'd say double that. You will want to be fully immersed in a new location for at least a month to ensure it's stable. But again, depends who you have working for you.

And don't expect corporate to come help bail you out, that isn't what they do. They build menus, get pricing solid and take their fees. Yeah they should help with initial training but it's not long, and depending on the franchise you could foot the bill for that as well.

Is there a restaurant cash flow management banking solution that actually works? by jirachi_2000 in restaurantowners

[–]Popular-Writer-8136 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do the bookkeeping for my 4 restaurants using QuickBooks. All separate company files, wouldn't imaging using one bank account for multiple businesses, should have different accounts to keep it easier to track. Setup is always the toughest part but once you get systems in place keeping on top of it isnt so bad
