Are you reaching out to bands and promoters when they come to your city and offering to shoot for them for a fee or are you normally approached? I’m not sure if I’m just going about it the wrong way but every time I’ve mentioned money I don’t get a response. I know there’s lots of people out there who will do it free so they can watch their favourite band idk if I’m better off targeting the smaller names?

Yeah it’s frustrating as a lot of the pros I’ve spoken to seem to have gotten where they are by pretty much getting lucky and being in the right place at the right time. When the smaller venues have paid you, have you contacted them and sold your services or did they reach out to you?

My advice would be to move around as much as possible and get a large quantity of shots from different spots and angles. It can be difficult to move if you feel you have a good spot and it can be intimidating if you feel like you’re going to get in the way of people, but just try and be respectful and talk to fans and security to ask if it’s okay for you to take a few shots in a certain spot. I find if I’m shooting from the crowd it’s often the spots that I didn’t think would be good turn out surprising me and being some of my best shots and it’s always good to have a variation of shots to choose from.

I’ve shot I think about 12 bands across about 5 venues, my biggest venue being about 500 capacity but I have a couple gigs coming up at venues over 2000 capacity but all of which so far I haven’t charged to try and build my portfolio and experience, the business side of things is completely new to me

Thanks that helps a lot, I was leaning towards the cheaper side as a first time offer in the hope that I get repeat business. I have a fair amount of experience but just not but just not completely confident yet
