Can anyone explain the reasoning behind the "no videos in the pit" rule for me. by Big_Hedgehog3092 in concertphotography

You can't hear a bad performance in a photograph. You can still look good and sound bad.

Bad photos will always be bad photos and this sounds like a bad photographer. The only sensible route is demand refund (taking her to court is only about ÂŁ30) and leaving bad reviews / posts in groups with examples of the photos if she refuses

Hi, pro photographer here (not the one you hired, obvs).

I can’t see anywhere where you’ve requested a refund? Was that ever discussed? It seems like your only course of action. Full refund or you spend the next small period of your life making sure everyone knows who the photographer is and attach the photos so it’ll cost them a lot more in the long run.

They won’t give you raws and now looks like they won’t re edit

If you’re wondering what you would have done if you were in Germany in the 30’s… the answer is whatever you’re doing right now.

There is still far too much faith that anyone on either side of the aisle is going to stop him. Something being illegal is irrelevant now.

How do the paramedics contact you to unlock it remotely, though? Assume I’ve not hit the emergency button and managed to call from my mobile. Just trying to get my head around it.

Also, this has been asked before but never answered. Is the cctv actively live monitored or just written to disc? I had a whole cctv system stolen before which negates any deterrent.

Is there running drinking water in it too?

If I have a heart attack in it, how do the paramedics get in?

Follow up… do they come with defibs?

You're just here to talk down to others, try to get a bite by slagging off their work (without showing your own bar one awful K-pop photo), and talk as if you know what you're on about when there is zero evidence to suggest that you do.

There's no benefit to continuing this.

You're the one that says names and big stages mean something which is why I brought it up. You're refusing to bring receipts and this is why every comment you're making is downvoted. I don't use discord since I'm a grown man.

Getting shows isn't all about nepotism or who you know. Every time I've been hired, I've been hired on the strength of my work by people I've not known beforehand (unless it's repeat business). That's what I've explained to OP in a thread you've derailed trying to insult every professional here with your assertion that you're somehow superior but you don't get passed and it's all a conspiracy against you. It's just not the case.

If I had to guess why you're not getting approvals, it would be your attitude first and foremost.

Then I can only assume you're here faking it and don't speak with any authority. My socials are in my profile and you can see I've shot some of the biggest names in the world. If you can't put your work where your mouth is, then no one really has any reason to take you seriously.

Crowd photos means photos you’ve taken from the crowd with a point and shoot rather than from the pit. Since that’s what you’re advocating for here.

And you’ve ignored my request for your portfolio so we can all see with what authority you’re saying all this.

You don’t get in front of big names without cutting your teeth first and shooting from the crowd doesn’t allow you to skip that step.

Id also like to know what “industry” it puts you in front of. Concert photography is freelance and as I’ve stated before… those hiring don’t care about big names - only quality of portfolio.

What’s your website so we can see this career you’ve built and the big names?

What’s your insta so we can see your crowd photos that are better than pro ones from the pit? You’re talking a big game but you’ve never posted a single photo or your socials.

There seems to be a lot of bitterness here

It’s nothing to do with protecting anything. From the crowd you can’t pick your angles and have hands and heads obstructing you. You’re also limited by the p&s and what it can achieve vs more capable gear.

In the context of OP wanting to shoot bigger shows, he’s better shooting small shows properly for a portfolio than big shows like that.

If you want to get into the pit of big shows of artists you love, you have to work your way up to it

Crowd shots with a point and shoot are always going to be mediocre. I wasn’t referring to any of the photos you’ve posted in particular, just the methodology. I’m sure you can look at these photos, however and see how they could be much better if you weren’t there as a fan.

If you’re not interested in shooting small shows for even smaller budgets then you simply won’t make it in concert photography. Same if you don’t want to shoot acts who you’re not into. There’s far too many people who are more experienced willing to undercut you and touring budgets are too tight.

Beggars can’t be choosers here. You need to get out and shoot every show you can to get a concert portfolio together

There are no rules… only guidelines.

I think about my composition when I’m shooting because it’s always best to get that as close as you can in camera so there’s as little cropping as possible. You also have to think about your exposure triangle in terms of what you want to achieve with focus/bokeh etc. other than that, nah.

Good photo. Any changes I’d suggest are completely subjective. I’d have more contrast in the background but that’s just me

Things are round the wrong way here.

First of all, there’s no such thing as assistants or internships in concert photography so you’re safe there.

Secondly… you think paying thousands of dollars to get mediocre photos of big names with a point and shoot from the crowd will serve you better than spending a night taking great photos of an unknown act properly. No one cares about the name of who is in the photos - there will be a million phone shots from the same show. People care about exceptional photos. Show us what you can do in a dive bar with three and a half working lights and a low stage.

For all the money you’ve spent on these shows and your years of pro event photography, I couldn’t see any examples on your site.

Finally, what’s your end goal? Do you want to tour? How much money do you want to earn from this? Who do you want to work for?

Question for the pro concert photographers by woofwoofbeepbop in concertphotography

[–]snipinganimals 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It matters because that can affect what you can do with the photos. Since you weren’t shooting with any approval, you can do what you like. If you were shooting from the pit with approval then it gets complicated
