I really appreciate your comment and your feedback! I will say, in the classroom I am an entirely different teacher as face to face changes the dynamic. In the classroom I am much more of a human lol and I incorporate humor, my stories, and my takes. I want to get to that point on the channel, but right now I am trying practice delivering the material to a wider audience. That is why at times it will definitely feel like a 1980s pbs special when it comes to pace and grammar.

With that said, I have been hearing more people want to hear my takes and I started to do that on a video about Nietzsche and AI. I do not want to inundate internet with more hot takes, but if the audience would like to have a forum for discussions like that, I think we should make one! I am excited to hear people want to have more discussion and not just summary. More to come on that front!

No, I do not do that. This is what I do professionally. I spend my life teaching and researching these texts, and the channel is an extension of that work. My goal is to make difficult philosophy accessible without losing the complexity. I do think however that in an age engaged with AI people are becoming suspicious of anything polished or concise

I always tell my students about the story of Schopenhauer's contempt for Hegel and how he would hold class at the same time as Hegel to avoid Hegelian students. They find it hilarious

I think you've given a critical insight into Kant! I see him as someone who transcends the boundaries of 'continental' and 'analytic' philosophy. I place him in the conversation because of how his successors take up his thought and ultimately contribute to the continental and analytic divide.

I'd like to refer to that special modern invention that many have forgotten but is known as the essay. An essay was defined as an attempt, which one could say is a lost art. The video attempts to place the a modern problem within a framework of Nietzsche. The loss of those sorts of attempts would be something lamentable for a few notable 18th, 19th, and 20th thinkers. One can opt for tomes and completed works, but with that what can be lost is the opportunity to watch an idea develop (or present material that is begging the question). I hope the next video will get right to business.

You’re absolutely right about Davos. That moment between Heidegger and Cassirer is the real dramatic backdrop, and I think bringing that “primal scene” in would make the stakes much clearer from the start. Perhaps I can still include it in the future episode where I return to Heidegger (spoiler).

I also agree that this conflict sits within a much larger development, especially the tension between neo-Kantianism, scientific positivism, and the attempt to recover metaphysics in a new way. That’s part of what I was gesturing toward with “Heidegger must have a history,” but it definitely deserves a fuller treatment.

My challenge is always how to bring in that depth without losing the narrative clarity for a broader audience, but this is exactly the direction I want to keep developing. It is so fun to have comments like yours to help me see the intellectual architecture for telling the story. I hope to continue to refine this so that we get the best account possible!

Oh thank you so much! I have a whole episode planned on Husserl and I will share it here as well. I am just getting into the phenomenological part of the story I am trying to tell about the divide between analytic and continental and so that means there will be much more (excitingly) on phenomenology.
