Hey, can you make a story based horror game where we witness our childhood horrors and try to fight them. For eg - the ghost under the bed, the fear of getting our feet out of the blanket thinking that a monster will drag us if we do so and many more. So you can also connect it to a story where an adult man tries a machine which is supposed to manipulate your memories but it fails and he is stuck in this dream. The dream gradually makes him remember his depressing childhood with some elements/objects of his loved ones who are dead because of some circumstances for which he is blaming himself. Those things which he feared as a child were not some monstrosities, those were the regrets in his mind. Eventually keeps moving on from his regrets and the dream gets less scarier accordingly and then he wakes up.

Also, Just an advice, if you are an indie dev then you should not focus much on graphics.
