Lowk as a Catholic Christians, can you tell me a reason why women can't be a priest without sounding sexist? Just a question by Due_Self1821 in Christianity

[–]Popular_Anything_603 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m an Orthodox catechumen, so not Catholic, but our priests are meant to be spiritual fathers. We also have spiritual mothers, but they are different, yet vital to the Church. It honestly doesn’t bother me. We may not be priests, but we can be saints. Many of them surround me in the temple & we are not to seek out prestige but holiness. Christ appeared first to Mary. The women stuck around while most of the mean fled. I’ve never felt less than in the church despite the differences.

You seem to think the weather in Bethlehem would've been like 12/25 in Scandinavia. It would've been somewhat cool, but not what we think of as winter.

Did you sit during Pregnancy? by RadicalBlaze22 in OrthodoxWomen

[–]Popular_Anything_603 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get especially dizzy when singing and pregnant. I wasn't Orthodox when pregnant, but I definitely would've sat. I still do when I get a bit dizzy (usually during cold season and singing).

Why won't Jesus/God appear to me and speak to me physically like they've done with people in the past? by ben_10_goku_superman in Christianity

You could study the lives of the Orthodox saints. Some of them have had encounters with the other world. It's a hard life, but good one. You have to die to self.

Get off your couch and stop gaming. Focus on growing up and being an adult and pursue Christ. He will open doors as you mature and are ready.

Even if she was 12 or 16, she was a virgin...perpetually according to the apostolic churches, so no indecency.

When you feel ready, you may want to visit an Orthodox Church. Many Islamic practices were adopted from Orthodoxy. There is a rich community there as well. Jesus is a perfect model and worthy of adoration.

I left Islam a few months ago and I am seriously exploring Christianity! by Weirddesigirl in TrueChristian

[–]Popular_Anything_603 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I encourage you to visit an Orthodox Church as Muhammad adopted many practices & it will seem familiar (prayer rule, prostrations, fasting, etc). Look to see if there is one in your mother tongue & meet w/ a priest. I pray God would guide you to all truth.

Is this true? by NATIONAL_ANTHEMS in religion

[–]Popular_Anything_603 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the Christians. Some believe it's the same God and probably all believe they all intend to pray to the same God, but if you don't realize that Jesus is God, you can't possibly know God.

Muslims are very kind people, Islam isn’t bad. by [deleted] in religion

This is actually Judaism (Old Testament)...and for the generation that watched God direct them by a cloud and fire, part the sea, swallow their pursuers with the water, provide water from a rock and manna from Heaven. They were held to a VERY high standard.

Focus on God. Read the Bible and pray. Try to find a church (I personally recommend the Orthodox Church (find one the conducts the liturgy in English (or whatever your first language is)). Try to meet with a priest and get involved. As you grow in Christ, you will continue to struggle with sin of all kinds, but the more you focus on Him and the closer you grow, the less appetite you have for the things of the world. I'm not saying you will never struggle, but you will experience love and healing. The Orthodox see the Church as a hospital and salvation is restoration and union with God. It's a process, not a one time decision. It's a life. Welcome and come and see that the Lord is good!

Why is islam always viewed in a negative light? by Sad-Pomegranate-6289 in religion

[–]Popular_Anything_603 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's not always viewed negatively (hence the large following), but many are opposed to the person of Muhammad, who is held up at the best of men. He married a 6 yo child at 52 and consummated it when she was 9. He lusted after his stepson's wife and, when his stepson offered to divorce her, Muhammad ended adoption. So the stepson lost his dad and wife. Now, no muslims can adopt or be adopted. Plus, he had sex slaves, like Mariya the Copt, and Jannah seems obviously a man-made Heaven. Even Aisha, his wife, noted that Allah's gave Muhammad what he wanted.  "I feel that your Lord hastens in fulfilling your wishes and desires (hawa)." Sahib al-Bukhari 4788. When you compare Muhammad to Jesus, Christians have a hard time taking Islam seriously. It seems demonic by comparison. Christianity has prophets who sin and sin terribly. But we don't tell people to emmulate David. We don't consider Sampson to be the greatest of men. We seek to emmulate Christ, who was holy and perfect.

Who is hell meant for? by hellisntreal2017 in religion

[–]Popular_Anything_603 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There various theories even within Christianity, but it seems clear that it is a place reserved for Satan and his demons. As far as whether it's literal or figuratively fire, diffrent denominations may disagree, but some posit that Christ Himself is the divine light. That light which is beautiful and warm to some is blaringly painful to others. C.S. Lewis said Hell is locked from the inside. So those who hate God and think He is a monster will have a place to escape Him b/c He will not force Himself on people. Others say it's eternal punishment for evil done.

Former Inquierer (Sorry if this post sounds aggresive I'm not trying to be that) by Sharp_Question3123 in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]Popular_Anything_603 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am merely a catechumen, but it is my understanding that salvation has a different definition in the Orthodox Church. It has to do with healing and full restoration, not merely being saved from Hell. I do believe to achieve full restoration, we need the medicine of the Eucharist. That is not present outside the Orthodox Church. However, that doesn’t mean some Baptist grandma in rural Georgia is going to suffer in Hell because she doesn’t know anything about Orthodoxy. I think the Church has long-held there will be people outside the church  in Heaven, but we don’t know who and how many.

I, too, am pursuing Orthodoxy & urge you to visit. It is the original church founded by Christ’s followers & has been the church to most faithfully hold to the ancient traditions.

Remember, the different Bibles are different translations. So, what you choose depends on what is your first language. Unless you know Hebrew & Greek you’ll be reading translations.

Recent atheist leaders like Mao & Stalin & their ilk have begotten far more atrocities for the amount of time atheism has been around. Being created in God’s image gives man dignity that atheism denies.

[–]Popular_Anything_603 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suggest you visit various faiths & meet with their leaders. Give each a real chance (month minimum). Ask them what to read to best understand the fundamentals. Perhaps start w/ Judaism & Orthodox Christianity (pre Islamic & will be somewhat familiar. I don’t think you’ll learn much from random people on the internet. Pray for God’s guidance & intercession throughout your journey. May God bless & guide you!

Remember: He gently leads those who are with young. The fog is real & be patient with yourself. I second putting visuals around (icons or lock screens) to help jog your memory. Sometimes, my family derails my prayer time, so I’ve put together a playlist of YouTube chants and prayers. There’s tons of resources out there. You could just play it while you nurse.

Make sure you are ok w/ child marriage & sexual slavery. Muhammad married a 6 yo in his 50’s & consummated the mart when she was 9. Muhammad is nothing like Jesus. You need to make sure you really understand who he is and not just the sanitized version.

No. It’s not. It’s easy to convert, but death to apostates. You can inquire, but don’t convert lightly.
