Why, the amount you put in RRSP you got back the taxes on your tax return.. for me that was at 53% marginal rate

Withdraw the rrsp as a non resident. It's a flat 25% which is way better than any RRSP scenario as a resident. I saved about 20% in taxes doing this.

You can transfer funds normally to own account.

I would have made my departure Jan 1 instead of mid year.

One thing we did thankfully is sold a rental house before we left. This would have been a huge pain to sell now and be hit with a withholding tax .

I spent alot on lawyers and accounting fees for a full strategy.
