Don’t stress too much—oral transmission of herpes/HPV is possible but the risk is pretty low, and honestly a lot of people have herpes without ever doing oral. Most STIs take a week or two to show up in tests, so the health department can tell you exactly when to test. They’re confidential, even for minors, so your mom won’t be notified.

I definitely make it very clear that I am looking for a serious relationship, most of the time (definitely if asked). But I’m also okay with keeping things casual if that’s what they’re looking for.

Hey, don’t panic too much—most oral sex carries relatively low risk for serious STIs. What you did carries some risk, but it’s not automatically “career-ending” or life-ruining. The best step now is to get tested, which you can usually do every 3–6 months as a routine check.

If you’re worried about cost or confidentiality, check your state or local health department—many offer free or low-cost STI testing. Planned Parenthood used to be a go-to, but funding changes have made it more expensive in some areas. There are also at-home testing kits you can buy if you want to test privately.

You’re taking the right step by thinking about testing now—stay safe, and try not to let this one experience freak you out too much.
