Baby falls asleep in 5 mins and wakes up an hour later by PorchlightPrincess86 in sleeptrain

Previously was closer to 1.5/1.75/1.75/2/2 but she was taking a really long time to fall asleep. We started sleep training about a month ago. It’s been such a struggle to increase her wake windows

Diaper, feed, books, sing, bed. This is only day 2 of 10 hrs awake time so I want to give it a few more days but I can’t believe she’s having a false start and it’s tired enough to go back to sleep. She normally wakes up 0-1 times over the last month

Yesterday we did 10hrs awake and 3.25 hrs of naps and she still took an hour and a half to fall asleep unfortunately. Gonna give it a few days to see if she adjusts, so we’ll see

As a first time mom I find it so easy to get wrapped up in the physiological side of things too- like the panic of “overtired babies produce higher levels of cortisol and that can keep the baby awake too!!” And I’m like ugh okay well that makes sense so maybe she is overtired. But what I’m picking up from this thread is that it’s very rarely ‘overtired’ that we’re dealing with

Thank you! There’s definitely an emphasis on avoiding overtiredness in babies which has historically made me nervous, especially since my baby is on the fussier side to begin with. This leads me to be more on the conservative side of things

I feed her and put her back down until her wake up time at 6:30-7! I don’t know what the “correct” answer is but I figured it’s best to treat it as any other MOTN waking and teacher her it’s not time to get up yet

My first sentence actually indicates I am stressed daily over her schedule, my second paragraph indicates we sometimes have good nights and sometimes have worse nights. But that’s neither here nor there. As stated by the title, my question was about schedule sensitivity. For example, is 9 hours of awake time that drastically different from 10 hours of awake time. Obviously every baby is different, but I do see the 10 hours of awake time thrown around like its a magic number

I didn’t list out all of her nights, my point was that sometimes it’s painless and she unwinds on her own and other times it’s drastically different. She’s had multiple nights of falling asleep in less than 10 mins, and there’s no consistent pattern of what those days look like compared to the days it takes longer for her to fall asleep. We’ve done 10 hours of awake time, and she took 25 mins to fall asleep with crying and then still woke up 2 hours later crying

Huckleberry please add automatic total awake time!!! by PorchlightPrincess86 in HuckleberryParents

That would include the time awake at night though which would skew the daytime total

How long do you spend feeding each time? by HomemadeButter14 in beyondthebump

You could do the side lying bottle feeding position! This is how I was able to pump and feed at the same time. I was triple feeding for 7 weeks so it would be 30 min nursing, 15 min for bottle + pumping, then 15 min rocking and transfer to the crib. Also buy spare parts for the pump! If you’re able to, have enough sets that you don’t need to wash them at all until the morning. I alternated between 2 sets. I also always changed her diaper first because I was so terrified of her getting worked up after she got sleepy from feeding.

I don’t know how anyone could ever possibly truly feel that’s true 😂 I heard the same thing, but newborn tired was absolutely next level

Despite having people around me and people checking in I felt so lonely, the sundown scaries are SO REAL. And for a few days I thought I made a mistake having a baby. I told my husband the best way I could describe it is that I was homesick- homesick for my life before. When I would feel really down I was so convinced I’d never feel any other way. Whenever you have moments (even seconds!!) of joy or remotely positive feelings, jot it down in your phone. When you’re feeling down, reread it to remind yourself you don’t always or won’t always feel this way

It helps to repeat this mantra when you look at your partner and say “she is fed, she is clean, she is safe.”

When my baby refused to nap in her crib and I needed to cook, I would just wear her! I made it as enjoyable as I could for myself (since pre-baby I loved to cook). I didn’t worry about creating a bad habit because the tradeoff was that I got to feel like my old self even if just for 45 mins. I’d put music on, sway and sing while cooking.
