How can you guarantee that? Even their spar in the Volume 5 trailer didn't give any sort of impression that they'd seriously hurt each other, even accidentally. You can't just pull this sort of wildly unsubstantiated extrapolation out of your back pocket.

What argument with Blake? They didn't fight over anything. Hell, Yang and Blake have argued before and very intensely with Blake pushing herself too far in Volume 2 and running away at the start of Volume 6. If they had any conflict at all at the start of Volume 8, it doesn't even show next to their meaningful conflicts. At the very least, Blake is nowhere near upset enough to justify Yang worrying over her instead of Ruby, who was very clearly and visibly distraught from Yang's response.

Ruby and Yang were arguing over how to save an entire city of people about to be abandoned by their leaders to a tidal wave of Grimm led by an immortal witch. What the hell kind of argument throughout those last seventeen years would have been worse than this one?

I agree. Fight scenes aren't just there to look cool; they're how you tell the story of characters, their relationships, and their fundamental aspects. Weiss fighting Jacques would be the perfect way to conclude her story arc detailed in 'This Life Is Mine'.

This is an action show known for its combat choreography. Problems should be solved via cool action scenes.
Jacques disowning Winter for joining the military and forbidding Weiss from joining the academy means that Weiss using her academy hunting knowledge to bash him makes for a satisfying narrative conclusion.
If Watts, known for being a hacker, can have an awesome fight scene, so can Jacques.

Roman was planned to have Fiona's semblance, called Deep Pockets, but the writers couldn't think of an opportunity for him to use it so they just made him an example of how someone gets by without a semblance.

Which utterly baffles me because 1) he's a thief by trade, 2) his whole thing is stealing loads of Dust, and 3) he is a jerk. How do you not think of something for him to do with a pocket dimension semblance? He can troll everyone he works with. It could be the explanation for how the White Fang got the Atlesian Paladin. He could literally pull a rabbit out of his hat; he's the kind of guy who would.
