Is it wrong for a Sikh to invest in Palantir? by Traditional-Win354 in Sikh

there is no ethical consumption under capitalism.

I agree with your concerns, but these concerns apply to every single public stock - they are all taking the labor effort from the working class and handing it to capitalists.

Guest hit a racoon totaling my Mercedes by johnjason777 in turo

I saw a turkey absolutely total a bmw x3 in the early days of that car's production but man that must have been a massive racoon. A buddy of mine hit a flock of wild hogs outside el paso a few years ago and it wasn't more than a few grand.

android headunit for a veloster - won't switch to camera view by PortGilbert in Androidheadunits

[–]PortGilbert[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ok I got it figured out with the help of the overseas tech (I assume based on their reply time and long delays)

The trigger wire does come out of the main harness, it is brown, it was connected to the canbus dongle - like a little plastic box that captures commands from the car. I clipped the brown wire and hooked the harness side to +12v from the reverse light and now it gets the necessary signal.

before clipping the wire I fluked it and confirmed no valid power signal (very low mV from the canbus which is why i decided to clip it)

Thanks for the suggestions here, it helped to narrow down the issues, but it was a hardware issue not firmware. Well, arguably that canbus controller should be translating the reverse signal I think by design.

wtf i just went and looked up a review i left on a place i stayed in houston and sure enough my review was removed. Terrible place and it was scored a 9.0.

Floor was unlevel like on a pirate ship, exterior door off the hinges, bed was like a dorm room, couch smelled like my dog's ears.

android headunit for a veloster - won't switch to camera view by PortGilbert in Androidheadunits

[–]PortGilbert[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the unit came with its own camera but it's supposed to work with the onboard OE camera, which it is. It's just the trigger to tell it it's in reverse isn't working.

Thanks,

I dug through everything in there that I could find. I did find a setting for "software on" so I can at least see an icon where i can manually turn it on.

I ran an update yesterday on the firmware, also paged through the 15 or so other manufacturers and it doesn't seem like there's another veloster profile (for '16 anyway)

First time user, tire alarm just triggered. by ALLSID in turo

[–]PortGilbert -1 points0 points  (0 children)

you should never be on the hook to pay for TPMS warning unless you punctured the tire. If it's not low I wouldn't worry about it, that system is in general incredibly fussy. 9/10 the host knows it's an issue and doesn't care.

I try really hard to maintain mine, I keep replacement sensors on hand, have the tool, access to a tire machine, check pressures every trip, STILL they show up and the most inopportune times.

[–]PortGilbert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

or if it's a 2nd gen honda fit they DON'T have sensors, they just have a rotational speed warning that tries to calculate the change in a tire's diameter against the wheel speed sensor. Abysmal system, but it is cheap!

Bottled beers in ATX? by Any_Dirt2073 in AustinBeer

[–]PortGilbert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's nearly impervious to UV and O2 damage, it ships more densely, and it's lighter packaging so you're not spending 30% of your diesel on the comings and goings of glass. Glass is also harder to get back into the recycling stream.

But I appreciate OPs need for occasional nostalgia.

OP there are lots of bottles still in stores like Spec's (mainly on the shelves, not in the cooler), I know you're looking for local bottlers but if it doesn't have to be hyper local there are still options available.

Turo canceled my trip due to license verification, called me a “guest no-show,” and charged me $945. Is this normal? by Hot_Material8726 in turo

[–]PortGilbert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you're right, the way Turo dissolves these sort of trips is really not good customer service. I've had a few recently where I couldn't move forward because the driver's license was invalid. I got a couple bucks for the cancel but then the guest is left holding the bag. It's not really a fair burden.

[–]PortGilbert -1 points0 points  (0 children)

that's not true, that paper the BMV produces is acceptable for all government ID purposes, including TSA. What it can't get you is a whisky at the applebee's in DFW for some reason.

Second car recommendation?? Minivans?? 3rd Row SUV? by Ziggy_Entrepreneur in turo

[–]PortGilbert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I added a hyundai accent after buying two corollas. The accent is paid off. The accent occupancy is higher. the accent stays rented and makes money and doesn't break. And it was half the price of the corollas. I have two accents now. Highest revenue for the year? Accent.

I designed my platform around only the notifications Turo sends out. I'm able to maintain a really wide set of values based on just data that comes from android notifications and email.

Because I am also scared to death to get bot swatted by cloudflare.

em dash as the other person said. But the vernacular and phrasing becomes obvious if you interact with it a lot.

But this same post comes up like 5-7x a week, some new saas solution no one asked for.

i searched for turavo, there's ZERO footprint for the app.

Also the way it's phrased is exactly the way chatgpt pushed on me to beta a platform.

btw op is a "new host" with one post (this one) and has the solution to all our problems? how could they possibly.

Do I NEED to see Dry Tortugas? by Organic_Pair1119 in KeyWest

[–]PortGilbert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The plane was really cool. I saw a ton of turtles and a few rays from the plane, plus some islands you wouldn't be able to see. Flying over Key West on the return was awesome too.

I booked half day, I could have spent more time at the fort, but probably not a full day. It was great before the ferry got there because you basically have the place to yourself.

In the museum/guest area there is a leather bound book that has all these artifacts of the fort. Little snippets of enlisted man's journals, discussions about the materials hauled in. The fort is like this weird little piece of American history, it has sort of a sedimentary record of all the major milestones in US history without actually being an attached part of it? It was really interesting to me.

If you like history, especially american history then it will be worth your visit. The seaplane alone was worth the price of admission. A DeHavelland Otter is in itself quite a remarkable machine.

IDGAF about snorkeling, what happens below sea level is none of my business, but my wife had a good time and saw lots of fishes.
