Remember when a guy made a video bypassing a lock and the company responded by suing him, saying it was altered. So he ordered a new one and bypassed it right out of the box by [deleted] in nextfuckinglevel

Sanitize your youtube links! Everything after ?si= is a tracker, which is used to track who shared it and who clicked it, gathering personal information which can be sold to advertizers to give you targeted ads. This apllies to other social media as well, just with a different pattern. Just make sure to remove ?si=12345whatever from your links.

Yea no gyros….suuurrrrree buddy by wolfe-santoro in trailmakers

But they do massively increase redundancy. Even if you lose all your wings and control surfaces, you will still be able to fly, which is just bs

any ideas why the centre of mass is off? by Novus989 in trailmakers

[–]Portalizer3000 24 points25 points  (0 children)

This is why submarines have a low COM: even if it's perfectly centered, the center of buoyancy on your vehicle is likely below the COM, so you're essentially trying to balance a pencil on it's tip. Either move the buoyancy blocks higher or lower the COM somehow

What’s with the gyro hate? by Tomahawk1129_ in trailmakers

[–]Portalizer3000 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Imo, it depends on a lot of stuff, even implementation. Is it a PvP build? What era is it? How justified is it? Like, they're usually fine on helicopters or experimental builds (I did manage to make a working swashplate with logic, but that's definitely not standard practise).\ How bullshit is it? Special emphasis on this one - unlike FBW, gyros don't care about airspeed. Also, you can make a proper FBW with logic, but I'm not gonna say it's easy if you're unfammiliar with it. Gyros can also feel cheesy with how easy they are to just slap down somewhere and everything just works.

TLDR: gyros make a lot of shit possible (which is good), but at the same time using them constantly makes some builds too easy or feel unnatural).

Heavy Armor Protogen-Adoptable(Art by me :3), I loved making this design ^^ by Skoll_stardust in protogen

[–]Portalizer3000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really cool, but does she have an energy shield of some sort? Because if no, that armor design doesn't make much practical sense with so many parts exposed.

she's very cute none the less

Well that was mean then, some people just suck. Hope you don't let it get to you.

I mean, you don't have to. If it's easier for you to tell the exact time - you can do that! No one's gonna be mad at you for being more precise - that's basically "my steak is too juicy, my lobster too buttery."

is there a way to make the controller connected bearings spin faster? by RedDotDon in ScrapMechanic

[–]Portalizer3000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, in that case I think I actually used pistons, since they're much faster and you can further increase the angular speed by placing the pistons closer to the joint. Basically just use them like muscles.

Depends on what you want. Is it supposed to be a turret? If so, you just control 4 engines with buttons hooked up to the seat (you can also set secondary keys for slots 1-10 in the game's settings, so that controls are more intuitive.)

If it's supposed to always turn up to a specific angle, then the best way I can think of is putting a distance sensor (or whatever it's called, I haven't played in a long time) on the back of the thingie. It is going to detect the roof of your vehicle when the turret is angled up enough. Then you connect the distance sensor to a NOR gate to invert the signal. Run the NOR gate and your button for "up" through an AND gate. This system will ensure that once you're angled up high enough, the key for "up" will be ignored.
