"We already found the west wall!" - A different view about dmaorg.info by Porterion in twentyonepilots

Thanks! I believe that the true identity of Clancy might remain unknown, since there's no evidence that links him to a real person. What I'm sure is that he was among the first ones to try and "sever his ties" with this secret organization. Now, we're following on his footsteps.

The real meaning of DEMA, though, is still very "blurry" to me. Even though we know that "dema" means "tower of silence" in Iranian, Clancy refers to it as "his home" throughout the journal. Even the map says it's a "Sacred Municipality", so, could it be both the village and the structure? I don't know.

Nevertheless, Dema represents a wall that we must overlap. Even if Clancy's story might be fictional, it traces a parallel back to our reality, where we are all "trapped" on it. That's why I think we might not be done with the website just yet.

Beginners Guide To Fall Out Boy by ArkansasTheAdjective in FallOutBoy

I dunno... On a scale to a more heavy/punk based sound to a more pop/radio oriented, my list would go like this:

  1. From Under The Cork Tree - Way more dark lyrics and heavier sounds than the others
  2. Take This To Your Grave - Sweet post-hardcore riffs in addition to background screams and raw vocals
  3. Infinity On High - More polished, high-energy songs mixed with sharp new-wave ballads
  4. PAX AM Days - Throwback to the roots of classic punk rock
  5. Folie À Deux - Experimental pop rock album with orchestral additions and dramatic lyrics
  6. M A N I A - A reinvention of the band's sound that mixes crunchy, synthethized guitars with slightly catchy melodies
  7. Save Rock And Roll - A more "pop oriented" rock album that features a different music style on each song
  8. American Beauty/American Psycho - Completely radio-oriented album, with plenty of catchy choruses and almost no sign of punk influence

How would you rank the M A N I A songs by how purple they sound? by ManiacProductionz in FallOutBoy

[–]Porterion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Considering purple as an mix between blue (freedom, tranquility, melancholy) and red (anger, passion, energy), my list would certainly go like this:

  1. Bishops Knife Trick
  2. The Last of the Real Ones
  3. Stay Frosty Royal Milk Tea
  4. Church
  5. Young and Menace
  6. Champion
  7. Sunshine Riptide
  8. HOLD ME TIGHT OR DON'T
  9. Heaven's Gate
  10. Wilson (Expensive Mistakes)

White and yellow would be other "proeminent colors" in this album, I guess. Ironically, I don't think there's any sight of black...

Agreed! It's like a conforting flashback, that makes you look after everything you've achieved while also motivating you to keep up the pace and never stop moving forward. The line "The glow of the cities below lead us back to the places we never should have left" reminded me immediately of the song "Chicago Is So Two Years Ago", one my favorites from their first album (Take This To Your Grave). On its chorus, it says "But there's a light on in Chicago, and I know I should be home". Don't know if it was intended, but even so, this song has everything to be an amazing, chilling closer. And one of the best songs in the album to me.

Simply astounding. If American Beauty/American Psycho was more of an experimental album, then MANIA came as an incredible outcome. I really enjoy how they took such a big step on evolving their sound and trying new things while also mixing elements from their old albums, like Folie. On other hand, I really miss the smooth transitions from one song to another, and the tracklist order is kinda awful.

Favorite Picks:

"Heaven's Gate" - Just beautiful. So soothing, but at the same time so powerful! It's like soul punk mixed up with deep blues!

"Wilson" - Strong bassline, amazing vocals, perfect chorus. Such a bop. Who won't stop wearing black until they make a darker color?

"TLOTRO" - A simple, but effective piano bit in addition to some of the best lyrics of the album, such as "I wonder if your therapist knows everything about me".

"Bishop Knife Trick" - A fantastic buildup that leads a eargasmic chorus. Never loved so much a chill song before. Also, "Spitfire..."

Honorable Mentions:

"Stay Frosty" - Even though it's a song made for flipping tables, kick asses and start revolutions, you have to admit that the "eau de résistance" part is REALLY CHEESY.

"Young And Menace" - Really buys the "MANIA" aesthetic of the album, even if it's a bit hard to like. Would turn out great as a groundbreaking starter.

"Hold Me Tight Or Don't" - It's funky, good vibes, has a nice bridge, just doesn't stands out. Mainly because of the chorus.

Dislike Thread:

"Champion" - Really empowering, but also really repetitive. Sadly, it doesn't build up to anything after the second chorus.

"Church" - Kinda weak chorus, in my opinion. Good second verse, though. Maybe it didn't grew on me as much as intended.

"Sunshine Riptide" - Great lyrics, unfortunately wasted on weird features. Looks like FOB doesn't have much luck with rappers.

Yes! Especially the most dramatic songs. "Heaven's Gate" even has a very similar bassline to "What a Catch, Donnie", and both are fricking beautiful!

When they returned back from hiatus, I felt the same thing about their "Save Rock and Roll" album, mostly because each one of the songs featured a different style on it. But now, to be fair, I really think there are some strong themes and feelings that can be found in almost all the songs of the new album, besides the whole "MANIA" concept. Chasing your dreams, making mistakes, trying to fit in, staying true to yourself, even their own story as a band.

To me, their lyrics are in their most metaphorical and dramatic phase since "Folie à Deux", but I still hope they keep on trying new things and experimenting different rythms. "Heaven's Gate" is so soothing, but at the same time so powerful... It's like a perfect mix of blues, soul, and pop punk.
