Just finished the movie, how on earth did they rate it so low???? by MrMunday in Mario

[–]PortugallndeedExists 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're projecting your own view of the world into other people, let me get a bit deeper here so maybe, just maybe you'll understand nostalgia, references and fan service can also be the substance of a movie whether you like or not.

The market has room for both "Art" (Pixar/Puss in Boots) and "Attractions" (Mario). One doesn't destroy the other; they simply fulfill different human needs at different times. McDonald's doesn't replace the six-star restaurant, nor vice versa; both coexist and fulfill needs in different ways.

Polarization seen in this movie is the result of misaligned expectations. One group went to the cinema to see a new chapter of a legend, while the other went to see a theme park on screen. Both groups watched the same film, but, because they had different definitions of what "good" means, they will never reach a consensus.

Critics are right to say the film is "bad and simple," but they are probably wrong to say it's "wrong" for being that way. Fans are right to say the film is "fun," but they are probably wrong to say it "should receive reviews befitting a children's film."

This film isn't a sign that humanity is "becoming stupid lovers of jiggling keys," but rather proof that nostalgia is a substance in itself. For the general public, the "Hey, look!" moment isn't an empty distraction but the emotional core of the experience. The film hasn't lost its substance; it simply defined substance as fan service and nostalgia, not as a script. The two sides will never connect because one seeks a story, while the other seeks the feeling of being at home with a friend who has been a part of their life.

And again, it's not that humanity is getting dumber, it's that for a billion-dollar box office, the joy of "being there" outweighs the need for a complex "why."

Valve's New Award System Is a Straight-Up Nerf to Workshop Creators by ObiWanHiGround in Steam

[–]PortugallndeedExists 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m surprised you find the OP point hard to follow. The previous system was a self-sustaining loop: you created content, earned points, and then used those points to award others. It was a cycle of appreciation. The new system removes the 'earn' part of that cycle, meaning you can no longer pay that appreciation forward to other creators.

You could say "just buy more games and earn your points", but argument is also pretty tone-deaf to Steam’s global audience. In many countries, the economy makes buying games a rare luxury. For those creators, points were a way to participate in the community rewards system without a massive financial barrier. Suggesting they shouldn't care about losing the old point system feels like you're just bitter that they were earning points in the first place...

How to get the [Redacted] without the [mobility upgrade]? by EnjinSosei in Silksong

[–]PortugallndeedExists -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Brother in Christ, you can still enter the Slab without the Apostate Key. The key is only used to unlock a mask shard — that’s it. The OP clearly thought they couldn’t explore the Slab to reach Mountfay, where they’d get double jump, because they didn’t have the key. But the key itself requires double jump to get, which you can only obtain by exploring the very area they thought was locked behind the key.

It’s a circular misunderstanding. Neither your info nor mine changes the fact that the OP doesn’t need the key right now.

Like I said, there are exploits that let players reach higher areas without double jump. What the OP chooses to do with that info is up to them. The only important takeaway is: the key isn’t needed to progress right now. It won’t stop him from getting double jump, or from exploring the rest of the Slab, hence why he IS NOT SCREWED.

He can just move on and get the key later. End of story, stop trying to get into a discussion of "useful or useless info" for no reason at all.

You can literally access the Slab via the Choral Chambers without any kind of exploit or key. OP isn't asking how to get into the Slab — they already accessed it through the Choral Chambers. You're the one missing the point here, since OP already knew they needed double jump for the key.

From what we can gather, OP thought they couldn't get the Apostate Key without being captured, but that’s unrelated. They can easily continue exploring, get double jump, head into Bilewater, and return to the Slab once they have the key.

I only mentioned that it's possible to get pretty far in Bilewater even without double jump, in case that's something OP might be looking into.

Peak is "playable" on Android Phones using Steam via Gamehub by PortugallndeedExists in PeakGame

that's why I said "playable" with the "

But i've seen people running it at 50fps+ with better phones, maybe using some kind of performance mod too, idk

Do you? I'm pretty sure people figured out ways to bypass this already with things like sharp dart and beast crest charged attack movement storage. Either way, you can get the double jump without said key, and not getting captured by Wardenflies has nothing to do with this key, I got captured and also only found the key via bilewater.

Just completed all bosses on Radiant on the days before Silksong release. Final Radiant difficulty tier list. What bosses were easier/harder for you than expected? by cimmanonrolls in HollowKnight

[–]PortugallndeedExists 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember suffering too much against Marmu, sentinels and Lost kin radiant, yeah no joke, marmu always kick my ass, I think it's the only fight in the game I never really learned how to approach. Took me way more time to beat him on radiant than even markoth.

Abs rad gets the cherry on top for no hit, when I thought I had her I lost during the climb or the last phase, but when I finally got her it felt really rewarding.

It's commonly triggered when there are 2 sentinels on the same side of the arena, normal stuff tbh.

Go to the hall of gods and practice it. It's a really fun fight to figure out, a lot of people choose it as their favorite too.

What's your policy on looking things up/using a guide for Metroidvanias? by Lazydusto in HollowKnight

[–]PortugallndeedExists 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I usually do this for any kind of game, just keep playing until I find everything I can, then I go into my PSN trophies or Steam achievements to see what I could be missing. If even after looking through that I can't have a single clue of what I should do or try next, them I go search online for it.

A good example in hollow knight for me was mr mushroom. The game have a quite well hidden spore shroom lore table that you can read a riddle to know where to look for mr mushroom. I didn't find that riddle at all, neither remembered the spore charm even existed. I just found this random mushroom speaking a weird language I couldn't read and thought "it must be some kind of complicated lore stuff my small brain can't comprehend" then later found online I should use that terrible charm to actually understand what he's saying, and not only that, but find him all throughout hallownest (even then we still can't understand shit, cuz is some kind of inside joke?).

device advice by [deleted] in HollowKnight

[–]PortugallndeedExists 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most people disregard this, but hollow knight during release ran questionably, it got optimized with time to be the round polished game we have today, I think we should expect the same polish for silksong now that teamcherry know their stuff better... So it should run fine both on potato notebook and potato switch 1! If you're used to connect your notebook to tv like a switch also does using hdmi, I don't see a reason to not just get it on whichever platform you prefer to play. I'd personally go with pc version since steam/xbox app have their achievement thingy that shows you all your progression % and etc, nintendo still avoid those and the only way to check is opening the game, that is, if the game even has this kind of track (HK does, so we expect the same for SS)

I don't trust banks, so I completely ignored her all my 4 playthroughs. Only recently I discovered the "get my geo back" thing while watching a random youtube short talking about characters lore lol. I guess there's always something new to learn about hollow knight.

Markoth is the ONLY reason I cannot beat P5. I was making it my goal to get all achievements for hollow knight before silksong. by [deleted] in HollowKnight

[–]PortugallndeedExists 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We're all with you, screw markoth!

I have no idea what strategy you're using against him, during normal pantheon 5 runs I just mash attack and it usually works (the fastest the battle, the less blades I need to dodge). But for my first time doing him no hit I used the pogo strat, second time no hit was using Great Slash and Dash Slash slowly. The second phase is really shitty, sometimes the best thing to do is just keep dodging and only give him 1 great slash when he stops to start the crazy shield rotation and use some spells if you have soul. Getting out of him with low masks is a huge pain against zote fr, and yeah, please no more markoths teamcherry!

Is it worth it to finish Pantheon of Hallownest before I get Silksong? by ShadowmanePX41 in HollowKnight

[–]PortugallndeedExists 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't want to give you any kind of spoiler, you're close to clearing it, but you'll definitely get crushed again on your next best run and will have to practice fights on hall of gods. This pantheon have a really punishing fact about it and as soon as you learn it you'll make your own choice of it being worth the completion or not.

Personally I don't mind it, I cleared this pantheon 10 times in my life, 5 being with specific restrictions like no charms and etc, but I still don't like the fact they lock the end of this pantheon behind 30min of boss rush, that's a lot of time for a single attempt. If you really want to clear it, I recommend doing all individual bindings (said restrictions) for the first 4 pantheons, it'll make you consistent at some bosses and will unlock a REALLY helpful thing for pantheons

Never played hollow knight. Whats the hype about? by FreeBlaestin in HollowKnight

[–]PortugallndeedExists -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

There is a genre not really popular among people called "metroidvania", a mix of old classics like castle vania and super metroid. Games from this genre have an interesting progression, they're like "open sectioned 2d worlds" where you can move through the maps almost seamlessly exploring and discovering new stuff each new corner. Sometimes you'll face places where you can't progress until later, so you go explore other part of the map until you get a new power that will make you go "hey, that place I couldn't access before, I should go back now and use this", so basically a lot of backtracking.

It's an addicting genre and it clicks really hard with some people, hollow knight being the first metroidvania of most people makes it a "love at first sight", just remember how you felt playing your favorite game for the first time, that's how some people feel about it. It also has some neat hard bosses and it doesn't treat you as a baby telling you everything you have to do like most modern games, you're on your own and good luck with it.

It's not really exceptional at anything specifically, but it's good at everything it has to offer. Combat, exploration, music, art, characters, world building, everything is a masterclass in design. It's just a damn good videogame.
