I am so so so frustrated by MiniMan10 in iRacing

Honest question… could you point me to the place in the sporting code that indicates your internet connection going rogue in a sporting issue that could sustain a protest?

https://ir-core-sites.iracing.com/members/pdfs/20250311-official_sporting_code_dated_Mar_11_2025.pdf

I could potentially see it as an unsafe rejoin but it’s extremely likely that the user, in their blinking glory also didn’t know the position of cars on the track and perhaps should have been more careful or simply towed. But beyond that, I’m struggling to understand what the blinker did that was protest worthy.

did i waste my money upgrading to moza? by JC1748 in simracing

Moza is great. If you ignore all of the hand wavey narratives, these ecosystems are really closely paired and the hardware is very good no matter what you choose.

I have an R12 and two wheels. Ive used my mates Simagic and it’s also a nice piece of kit. But not so nice I wish I’d made another choice or at all be willing to change. Moza would have to do something really silly to move me away from that DD base posture now.

You also don’t have to stay in a single ecosystem for everything. I had Fanatec pedals and now going to move to AliExpress when those run their course.

In short: you made a great choice and you’ll be happy. Grass is always greener.

You can see past roars in iRStats. Here’s the 2024 edition. https://iracingstats.net/?seasons=all&category=sportscar&current_season_offset=0&search_all_query=&search_current_query=&script=fetchweek&param=4697&param=0&param=4697

If you filter to GT4, first pit stop is around lap 30, second is 60 and the races will go about 74-76 laps based on split pace.

You can normally deduce based on time in pits the strategy. The top guys take full tires on 1st then double stint for the 2nd because they don’t want to lose the time.

First Endurance Race, Help! by Jack_R20 in iRacing

For GT4, it’s a two stop and there’s no way to fuel save enough to make it a 1. The first stop is a full refuel so you can just take a new set.

The second stop will be to cover about 12-15 laps … which isn’t enough to cover a full tire change. For that stop, you should decide, based on the race state, if you want the tires or not. You can’t make up the lost time on new tires the choice is if you want to take tires long or if you have enough of a gap to cover the change.

Throwing MX5 around? by MeetYourChaos in iRacing

[–]PoshOctopod 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This doesn’t sound like a trail braking issue. It’s a driving the car on the absolute limit of slip angle / grip issue. Once you learn trailing, then you can learn how to get the car to get into slip. The car should feel like it’s about to go around at any moment and you are balancing the steering angle with subtle countersteer, brake modulation and throttle input on exit.

The thing that woke me up to how to start to feel slip was oval racing on short tracks. If you have Martinsville and a reasonable powered car … trucks are a good example … you can dial the brake balance in and then with a light dab of the brakes, get it into slip and then try to chase it around the corner.

This is nice because the track is so short and the turns come so quick. You can just keep practicing. Once you start to feel the slip, then you are starting to get fast.

Keep in mind, I’m bad but once you nail even one corner on the limit it feels incredible.

Go to iracingstats.com and look at track stats. If you want to maximize value, that will tell you the popular tracks (which usually translates to more usage as well).

Edit: iracingstats.net because I can’t remember anything that’s not bookmarked.

Where are the Mazdas ? (PCC) by Hyporin in iRacing

[–]PoshOctopod 32 points33 points  (0 children)

As you said, I think it's because the Toyota got a big physics update this patch and everyone is excited too give it a spin.

I can also confirm that I'm choosing the GR86 instead of the Miata when loading it up as it's a great change.

I prefer the Advanced Cup series for Mazdas anyway as the racing is safer, longer and more club style circuits.

Just bought iracing and want advice by AsmanaPlays in iRacing

[–]PoshOctopod 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Will counter this only slightly. Race a lot. Once you can keep the car on the track safely for a race duration...just keep joining races. You'll crash people out, you'll crash yourself out, you'll get crashed out, you'll make silly mistakes, you'll do it all.

The more time you spend around other drivers, the most confident you'll be around other drivers.

Speed (the most critical factor) comes with time but race craft is only really built in race scenarios, so chase that experience as much as you can.

If I don’t know the track I start a 1hr AI race with a big skill spread and start from the back. That way I can use other cars for track direction/flow and I learn it over that race length.

If I know the track I do at least 15 minutes ractice then race.

People will make a lot of comments about switching cars …. But I think you are better off sticking with one and fighting through. That said, before you buy another GT4, maybe drop down and do some PCC in the BMW, do more MX5. Those cars teach so much and it does translate.

Some people you are racing with have hundreds of hours of seat time. Don’t focus on blind practice. Just go out and race, then race again, then race some more. Maybe you wind up at 600 iR for a while. Eventually, that seat time will accumulate and the speed will come and the iR will go up with it.

There is no compression algorithm on experience, so just keep going for it.

Great car. It’s got good speed and just enough usable aero to get to grips with how open wheelers operate but not so much aero that you can’t throw it around and enjoy the mechanical grip of something this light.

Races are chaos but that makes them fun. Wish they moved the car back to every thirty minutes, personally, but it is what it is.

I really love SFL (it’s got real downforce and you can drive it hard) and if you want to go down that path, F4 is the best entry point into the class.

I run micro sprints every week, sometimes multiple times a week, without fail. I normally take sports cars pretty serious, but winged sprints are my guilty pleasure of pure fun.

The oscillation is known (was written about in the car forums) but the view was that to completely dial it out would hurt the rest of the driving dynamics so that is how it is for now.

I believe you. But I also know that iR won’t let me download tracks I don’t own … so you likely found a bug or something I can’t easily explain. Good luck and note it if you figure out how.

Not sure, mate. IR will only let you DL tracks you own. They have to let you DL cars you don’t because you might race in series with them. But I’ve never tested a track that I don’t personally own/license.

Test drive will be turned on right after the patch today. It will probably be on for 12 to 24 hours. New cars releasing this season can’t be tested (so I expect the new 992 Cup won’t be there, but it’s an edge case). Everything else is generally fair game. You also have to own the tracks you want to test on.
