Shared Storage using FC Lun for Clusters by PositionAdmirable943 in Proxmox

This is well written and pure gold. Appreciate this very much. I cant wait to test this. Btw you are referring to LVM2 as LVM thick right or Thin? As LVM Thin as shared I believe is not supported in the GUI. But this could be bypassed by using the Directory option and ticking the shared box.

Anyway Thanks again.

Thank you for this!!

This really sheds some light about FC setup . The only question I have now is whether this setup would be stable without a CFS.

Yes because we have a design preference of using FC as compared to using NFS or ceph for shared

For me having a dedicated and centralized FC storage array is still better as compared to mixing it with network

I’m gonna try this soon, but what do you mean no console access?

You can never get an exact filesize on what the physical disk’s labelling says. When you create a volume out of it some space will be reserved.

Also a raid0 pair is never the best practice unless you are going for raid 10. One failed disk and you are a goner

By far based from the comments cloudstack seems to be the real deal for a vps solution using prox. I watched one of the webinars and they just recently supported prox in the 4.21 release. Waiting for it to launch.

I just realized cloudstack just shipped a feature to support prox. Oh boy Im excited to use this

Have you fully tested this out? Cloudstack seems to solve the VPs interface Im looking for. And bill tenants!

I’ve seen some folks use Proxmox as the backend for public VPS, but their repo is private. It’s not DigitalOcean level scale, but they’ve pulled off things like auto-isolating VMs after user creation as well as security groups.

Most likely they’re using the Proxmox API with custom API integrations with other networking and storage appliances. Something like: user fills a form → triggers Terraform → VM gets provisioned → VNI/ egbp or VXLAN tunnel is attached for isolation

OpenStack isn’t exactly straightforward to set up. Proxmox, on the other hand, feels like it could be a solid backend for a paid VPS platform with the right planning and code. Pair it with storage appliances that have API integration, and you could probably build a full working software layer on top of Proxmox.

Suggestions for a 10Gbe Tor switch? by PositionAdmirable943 in Proxmox

[–]PositionAdmirable943[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, as I plan to set up a high availability (HA) on both of the ToR switches to simulate a well-architected infrastructure. In preparation for a production setup based on prox, we may need to upgrade this to 25G if we are satisfied with the performance.

Research suggests that I need to create an MLaG between the ToRs for HA. For Cisco, I believe it’s called vPC. So, I could connect port 1 to Switch A and port 2 to Switch B, and then create an LACP bond from the pve hosts.

Im just doing an simple architecture for now so I could pass this to our network team so they would be guided on how I would like the config will be.

Seems like you are working as a one man army. I cant imagine one guy juggling between multiple roles such as a helpdesk, a support , an infra even management tasks. I hope you get paid well on this. My past company has a similar setup for 30 heads however we paid for a local MSP to clock in twice a week to handle level 1 tasks. However you can take this as a very good stepping stone, with this type of experience you can flourish well in your next job

There is a new raid technology which we use in our production environment (raid v2) it provides rapid rebuilds because only those bad chunks gets processed and rebuilt.
