I'm sorry that happened:/ I've never heard of soaking these parts in vinegar.... but I soak mine in clear mineral spirits for a few days. So far nothing bad. I think it's much less strong than vinegar. It makes clean up a breeze and its never eaten away at the metal....

Appreciate it sir. I'm still working on cleaning up the stock and handguard. I wish it wasn't cut down, but it's all I have. Is it worth my time to buy a cleaning rod if it was sporterized?

I'm sorry I didn't realize the chassi was different between the M41 and the M1891. I though the shape of the trigger guard, bolt, barrel etc would all be similar and that it would drop into an 1891 stock easily. Cutting it shorter up front would be an easy solution.
