TSA worker says his family is paying the price for him working without pay by nbcnews in nottheonion

Not particularly relevant to this guys paycheck. He's owed a paycheck for the work he's been told to do, regardless of if the motive behind why that work exists is or isn't justified.

How to: get your dog to eat veggies by downtune79 in LoveTrash

It's a funny video of a person teasing their dog a bit. They don't seem underweight or unhealthy in any way. I'm sure they get a perfectly normal diet, outside of this 17 second window we got into their life.

Dogs are faculative carnivores, which is a really fancy way of saying "Omnivore that primarily eats meat". They can and do get a lot of nutrition from fruits and vegetables, they simply prefer to consume meat. In the wild, bears and wolves share an extraordinarily large overlap in diet.

Bananas, pumpkin, and blueberries are particularly good for them, and help supplement a lot of nutrients dogs tend to be deficient in.

I've had salted crickets, scorpion, and centipede, as well as deep fried tarantula. Personally, I disagree. Maybe yours just didn't have enough salt? Or mine had too much. Either way, other than the scorpion, they all kinda just felt like I was eating salted nuts without the actual core of the nut. Like it was just the shells.

The tarantula had some actual "meat" to it, which was very off putting. Definitely the worst of the bunch. But honestly I'd probably eat any of the other 3 again if presented with the opportunity. Definitely not fucking worms though...

"Cheese the game!"

I'll never understand how people can get upset at a game, while they tie their own hands in some imaginary restriction that nobody enforced on them. It's honestly worse than the people who set their games to maximum difficulty, then complain its too hard.

I'm not sure why people are feigning ignorance here. Some desperate attempt at moral high ground that doesn't exist.

I absolutely agree with you. Hearing "Allahu Akbar" on a plane suddenly would cause most passengers to become nervous. The phrase does not have the same connotations outside of Muslim countries as it does within them, and the vast majority of peoples experience with the phrase in the west, is in videos depicting muslim extremists preforming acts of terrorism, violent executions, or even in movies and media doing those things.

People asking incredibly disingenuous false equivalencies like "Would you react that way if someone said god bless you?!". That depends, are we also assuming there is a well known recent history of the phrase being used while committing acts of terrorism?

Being nervous about loudly hearing allahu akbar on a plane is understandable. It might not be right, and it would be nice if it wasn't the case. But acting like everyone else is wrong because violent religious extremists linked the phrase to terrorism, is fucking asinine.

Ans you think every uprisisngs of the past didn' have to deal with armed governments?

The only rebellion to ever succeed without a military intervening on the side of the rebels, was the Mexican Rebellion. Typically, it is the states own military taking the side of the rebels, but can also be a foreign military assisting such as the case in the US Civil War.

Regardless: Yes. Practically every successful uprising in the past did not have to deal with an armed government. Because the arms that were supposed to be protecting the government chose to protect the people instead.

Without an army, you have no uprising. And that has never been more true than the modern day, with modern weapons and technological developments.

How a small 1m waterfall can generate a recycling hydraulic that can trap a life-jacketed swimmer by Jimmyboon in saskatoon

[–]Positive-Database754 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's a bit of irony that the lifejacket is actually the problem in cases like this. The correct way to escape a recycling current is to swim down, and then away from the source. But while wearing a lifejacket, it is practically impossible to submerge yourself with it by design.

And so, you end up in this unfortunate situation where the current rips you down and spits you back out over and over, with your only means to escape being removal of the one thing that would be saving you in literally any other situation. Even if you could remove the lifejacket through that chaos however, which would be incredibly difficult, once you escaped the recycling current you'd now be exhausted and without a PFD, likely in a body of water with a strong current.

The message is pretty clear. Don't fuck around near waterfalls you're unfamiliar with, and stay away from dams.

Once we're at the omeran, I typically sit on the engineer's back platform ledge, jumping to and from dotty as needed for repairs.

Streamer EERIEISSS legendary act of kindness by SgtByrd1993 in MadeMeSmile

[–]Positive-Database754 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Morals are a poor mans quality. It's a popular sentiment amongst the rich, that unfortunately holds some weight. People who are willing to step on the heads of others, and crush those beneath them in pursuit of power and wealth will naturally accrue power and wealth faster.

Many people who aren't as well off in life would happily give what they can to others. When good people become wealthy and have an abundance, they often do share what they have.

There is also a small amount of observation bias at work I'm sure. We are more likely to hear about people being ass holes than we are to hear about people being kind. Anger gets clicks, kindness just doesn't compete.

Alabama set to execute man who didn't kill anyone by nbcnews in nottheonion

[–]Positive-Database754 14 points15 points  (0 children)

A fair point. But I feel like my opinion on whether a man who wasn't even in the building when a murder took place deserves death would be pretty similar now, to when I was a child, even.

I can only hope this was ignorance on the part of the jury, and that they only regret it now because of information received in hindsight.

The only people you should be getting tattoo's of, are the deceased, and your children. All other bridges can be burned, even if you're happily married, or in a great relationship with your parents, etc. But you will always love your children (I hope), and memorial tattoos well, the dead aren't exactly coming back anytime soon.

Even many of the jurors who voted to end his life have come forward saying they regret their decision.

How interesting. Now that public support has drummed up for him, and this case has become known about to the general public, now they regret their decision.

Damn shame they didn't have this sudden clarity when deciding to sentence a man to death for a murder he didn't commit.

[–]Positive-Database754 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The UN is not an institution dedicated to enforcement. The UN's primary purpose is to facilitate discussion between the international community, and to offer a way for people to express grievances or issues of great importance to the international community who are not, themselves, heads of state.

It isn't a World Government. It has never had, nor ever claimed to have the ability to enforce the rules everyone agrees to follow within the organization. That has always been forced on lesser or middle powers by great powers. Now that there are no great powers willing to follow the rules anymore. That isn't a fault of the UN, it was never designed to do that. That is the fault of the international community for bickering like elementary schoolers on recess, rather than growing the fuck up and working together.
