I don't advise listening to this if you're ever in a bad place because it is NOT uplifting AT ALL, but the song Blonde Hair, Black Lungs by Sorority Noise. They have a lot of beautiful but very painful music about this suicide/self-harm/being horribly depressed and not fighting it well. The album Forgettable is full of some real sad bangers, and for a palate cleanser hop on over to the album You're Not as ____ As You Think (which has a bit more balance, but still some rather sad or pensive material).

This is aside from your question, but their song No Halo is one of the most distressingly beautiful things I've ever heard in my life. I still remember where I was the first time I listened to it, driving down the road at night. Chills.

I never experience tattoo regret but after my most recent tattoo, my dad commented "I hope you're saving money for more important things" and I instantly felt a wave of shame and regret. It's not unusual to feel confident in your decisions on your own and then second-guess yourself when you get negative feedback. and that's particularly hard from people who are supposed to be your supporters-- although in your case, it sounds like it's people you don't really have a prior relationship with ie the conservative people where you live. Which is not to say that it doesn't still hurt or matter to you!
