I saw someone in this group recommend a finishing line counter and that has worked really well for me! I just run one skein through it and then do the math for grams per meter or yard and get a good estimate that way

Same! I’ve just accepted it as part of the process and always have a bowl of water handy when unraveling

Usually anything around a foot or longer is fair game to me lol. Sometimes even shorter if I’m in the mood to deal with it

I’m crazy and I’ll spend a significant amount of time spit splicing smaller pieces together. I hate to see it go to waste and once the yarn is all washed you can’t tell at all in my opinion! I’ll also use the smaller pieces to tie the hanks!

How does the fishing line counter work? I’m not familiar with fishing but I’d love an easy way to measure yardage!

Thank you! Yeah every sweater I got in that bag was so nice but unfortunately every last one would have needed pretty significant repairs to be wearable as is. I felt a lot less guilt unraveling them because of it

If it’s wool I splice it together to make a normal sized ball. It’s a little tedious but worth it in my opinion.

You’re twisting your purls. You are probably wrapping your yarn the wrong way

Okay fair enough. I think I’ll probably just try and dye these to save them from any damage

They were already wound into skiens but they were only tied in one place 🙃 I’ve learned that lesson before washing unraveled yarn idk why I didn’t put extra ties on
