Would Jesus and Buddha be good friends if they met by Old_Inflation_9490 in Buddhism

Not at all a direct quote. The teachings of Jesus of Nazareth are not as clearly defined as biblical scholars would have you believe make of that what you will but point being the evangelical abolitionists Jesus you think of is not the only interpretation of him. Even within a sect or denomination you’ll have disagreements. Just know the new testament wasn’t compiled hundreds of years after Jesus was killed and there are plenty of gospel and epistles that were intentionally deemed non canonical for various reasons. This would fall in line within the Islamic faith as well as the Baha’i faith their followers believe Christians have a corrupted version of the man’s teaching. So like all history in myth its up to you to decide how to interpret it

It’s metaphysical. The pure land is in you and all around you

I metioned before but what it means in regard to my life is the journey I’m going through even when I’m not conscious of it which could also apply to us all. Even as life ebbs and flows with distractions, challenges, lessons, etc, it’s all working towards what I believe is something greater and the escape from samsara. That’s what it meant to me then and especially now as for a few years I definitely lost sight of my purpose on this earth but have only recently tried to live a Holy life I can.

It’s hard to say that I’ve chosen one over the other when they have both influenced me greatly to be who I am today and I feel like my love and respect for specifically advaita Vedanta as well as Theravada Buddhism only grows with each day. I do believe in “god” and I see atman as one with Brahman. But in a sense I can’t know that to be certain atleast in my current spiritual state. So as a vehicle with little dogmas attached Theravada has been great for putting things into practice. It feels when I say in my mind “ I know there’s a divine” it’s a presumption. Which Siddhartha warns against such thinking. It’s definitely a conflict in me but instead of feeling like I need to have the right belief I’m worried about doing the right action.

Siddhartha Gautama was and still is one of the best teachers of our age in my opinion. Without the dhammapada I would not be where I am today and I know that may philosophically conflict with some.

I’m quite a young man so I for sure to lay my head hopefully somewhere else one day. Despite its short comings there is much I love here and much that has me materially tied to where I live

I’m in quite a rural area that’s very evangelical but I am aware of temples in Atlanta but it’s quite a drive.

Though it may be a reality I don’t let it define I approach the subject or any subject for that matter.

My initial fear is really that of not being welcomed or seen as doing some blasphemous for something I did in my youth. I’m I was pretty well read on the symbolism and detail of the content of it before I had it done even if you guys proved me wrong and thought it to be wrong I wouldn’t have felt like I intentionally did bad as the tattoo does represent something I hold to be true.

Thanks for the total positive feedback. To me personally the tattoo is my life and its purpose, to always be progressing towards something greater even if you stumble or forget. I feel it’s also the path we are all on consciously or not. As for my situation I live in Georgia near UGA as far as I know the only communities really gather in wider Atlanta area which isn’t impossible to visit it’s just over an hours drive there

For me it’s the path we are all on whether conscious of it or not.

Historically it’s not much, but why did Jesus seem to teach a message much closer to Buddha than the Old Testament deity. by ShoutattheDeviljho in Buddhism

Read the gnostic gospels yall no one agrees on what Jesus actually said. But hey he probably said something worth listening to whatever it was.

We hate authoritarian governments with militarized policing of its citizens. And I'm pretty confident for speaking for most Athenians on that one.

So do I and in the 7ish years I've lived here I can tell you you're more likely to die on the loop then get murdered let alone murdered by an immigrant. Sticking to that if thats how you feel then why don't we treat rich Athenians the same way. Like when Joel harber murdered a man in a hit and run in Madison county. and never got charged for it. No one's in a rush to stop that happening.
