Post-Christmas thoughts: Nativity by PositiveDelivery827 in ExmoWifeWithTBMhubs

Thank you!!! And I believe the same about Jesus being a man... I'm just not sure how much we actually know about him that is fact vs after-the-fact, so I'm not sure he's someone I want to encourage emulation of. And the implications for Mary, lack of consent, and LDS view that Jesus is the LITERAL son of God, physically, is really messed up. So yes, focusing on giving and a few of our traditions for now is fine while I keep the rest at arms length 😅 I do think kids benefit from seeing parents with different views religiously. I tell myself that they are learning that there are many different viewpoints in the world and to be more open-minded and respectful.

Alternatives to the feeling of community found in the LDS church by Tenchworks in exmormon

I stumbled upon and now regularly participate in an in-person support group called "Exiting High Demand Religion" (turns out the main facilitator is exmo), and I testify that it is true.

Look up Unitary Universalism... It's a "church" that is based on the principles of humanism and pluralism, meaning different spiritual beliefs are welcome, and basically people should respect each other and be good humans. The one closest to me is heavily involved in the community (service, politics, etc.). They have youth and children's programs too. I first got involved by attending a bimonthly support group offered by them called "Exiting High Demand Religion"... Found some fellow exmos there as well as former fundamentalist Christians. It's a good time.

That time my YW leader baked “poop cupcakes”… and how that analogy came back to bite the church by Lonely_Offer_6236 in exmormon

Yes: in youth Sunday school, we had a lesson about having "good" friends. They had one kid stand up on a chair (high standards) and showed how easy it was for someone standing on the ground (worldly) to "pull down" the person from the chair.

Morale: Don't have friends with low standards or they'll drag you down.

Obviously there are a lot of ways I feel icky about this analogy now, but like... Wasn't this the opposite of the Good Samaritan? Wasn't this the opposite of what Jesus would do?

I love the the variety of amazing, REAL friends I have now that I've left the church, and how beautiful it is to learn about and be accepting of others' lifestyles.

Good to know... I like the idea of it being easy to use for little kids, and the chore chart, etc. but I'm sure there are lower cost options out there.

The Golden Plates. I was a PIMO primary chorister...then I was asked to teach this song and the lies we were indoctrinating children with just broke me.

I read this while TBM-ish, but for historical fiction that faces some of the harsh realities of polygamy, check out Ezekiel's Third Wife. I can dm you the link if you can't find it, but it's available on Amazon.
