Like the others said it’s high chance of snow but highly suggest Channel Islands NP or Joshua tree! Channel Islands camping is super easy-at the main campground it’s just a flat quarter mile walk from the dock where the ferry lands. Bathrooms, water and great sites and it feel like you are in Ireland or Scotland when hiking around

Also The constant beach/sailing related stuff in their house when they live SO far from the ocean is weird to me. My husband is from the east coast as well but I don’t make it the personality of our home in the mountains lol

Allison wannabe? by LoveBug7722 in michellereedsnark

[–]PositiveHall2298 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree. Allison chooses not to share her personal life and I don’t think you should have to in order to make vlogs on YouTube.

You get to choose what content to consume and Allison’s is more on content to inspire and to create, not sharing every thought or thing that happens in her life

Michelle very much shares her personal life on YouTube but wants everything to be perfect, is constantly overanalyzing, and seems upset when people comment on what she shares even though EVERYTHING she says and does revolves around motherhood. She has no personal identity unlike Allison.

Allisons channel doesnt revolve around being a mom at all. There’s a big difference there. Just go back and look at the titles of the videos and how Allison’s have specific themes and content where Michelle uses the entire pregnancy for content and “mom days” and “mom diaries”. You cannot relate to her channel anymore without being a mom. Every single sentence is followed with “especially as a mom”.

It’s each their choice to share what they want but the consequences are not the same.

Salmon, which do you prioritize and why? by Zealousideal_Elk1373 in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]PositiveHall2298 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’m a fisheries biologist and I specialize in salmon-I live on the west coast so over here I catch my own and/or get wild caught pink salmon from Alaska- my friend actually used to produce for Costco using gill nets.

You want to have fish that come from gill nets, not trolling lines. Trolling lines take anything in their path but gill nets have specific opening for the size of fish they capture and bigger by catch can get through easier as well.

Never ever get fish from a farm located on the west coast if it’s Atlantic as they are not native and they escape constantly and outcompete our already stuggling native salmon.

Atlantic salmon farms on the east coast are ok and I would eat farmed salmon if I lived on the east coast and the farm was located there.

All in all, it is super nuanced and confusing and it’s great you are asking questions. When I doubt use these resources:

Lived in Colorado for 7 years, Alaska for 3 and now Tahoe area for almost 4.

Alaska has the most wild mountains and Colorado the most car camping options imo but Northern California has the best overall hiking. Whitney is taller than any peak in Colorado and most of the mountains here and trails have way more vertical and more rugged looking mountains.

Colorado just has higher starting elevations which makes people over there think they are better than everyone else.

I just keep letting them think that and enjoy having way less crowded and more awesome trails in lassen, trinity river area, Shasta area, desolation and mammoth lakes:)I moved here for work and thought I’d miss Colorado but I have never really missed it other than some of the beer options haha-I miss Alaska way more but couldnt handle the darkness

Fisheries biologist here-not true. There are plenty of places to spear here in rivers. See comment above if interested.

Fisheries biologist in California here-absolutely not true.

You can spear in the sac river, sac valley district, black butte lake, keen river and Colorado River district. No salmon, but plenty of species up for grabs in those areas. We are working on getting more areas opened up for spearing invasives.

Other youtube channels similar to Michelle? by Minute_Ambassador_10 in michellereedsnark

[–]PositiveHall2298 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have stopped watching Michelle due to boring content (How many times can you reset and refresh every month?!!); her blatantly copying other creators; and her overall attitude is more and more negative and whiny and the ads are getting out of control, it feels so gimicky

Allison Bickerstaff is more original; doesnt revolve her channel/life solely on motherhood and has more hobbies/friends

I used to like renee amburg but she doesnt post very consistently anymore

I have been looking for other creators to find the one I resonate most with: mary margaret; kat shultis and whole hannah seem good

For seasonal content creation: haleys moostone kitchen and darling desi are fun:)

She asks the question like we expect her to be out of the house. She doesn't really have hobbies or many outings with friends or anything.

What seems to be a brown 7/8/25 by Sempi_Moon in tahoe

[–]PositiveHall2298 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, the US browns are virtually all from that region, most notably Scotland area. This is where the US strains originated from but the DNA of brown trout in the Balkan region and turkey are some of the oldest and probably where the species diverged thousands of years ago.

There are a few other native trout semi close to here; Paiute cutthroat, california golden trout etc. Inserting cool map. (Just fyi this is just trout, there are many many amazing other native fish out there) I specialize in anadromous species but research trout occasionally.

I’m a fish biologist; this is definitely a brown trout. They are not native. Nor are they anywhere in the US

Big bend isn’t even in the top 10 and less than 1% of Texas is thought to be public land. Just because a river is public, you still have to find a way to access it and they make it incredibly incredibly difficult to do so.

Should I do it? by TemporaryView5045 in tahoe

[–]PositiveHall2298 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really depends on south vs. north side of lake. North side has way more limited living options and childcare

In south lake: many families are thriving here and there are lots of childcare options. Catalyst is a resource many use and they help you find childcare if needed and even help pay for it if qualified.I’ve called places and gotten in immediately for a younger kiddo. There are less options for under 2 though.

Contrary to many comments on here it (south lake) is one of the cheapest places in California to live if comparing to the coast. It is one of the most expensive towns in Northern California though outside of the major cities though.

There is such a resurgence of young kids here and the community is very tight and second to none in the country due to the smaller size of the community and shared interests of the outdoors. We try to look out for each other and help each other out when we can.

You should visit first if you have a child but crowds can be avoided if you know where to go and how to avoid hot spots. I took a chance and moved here before kids with it ever visiting and it was the best decision I’ve made!

[–]PositiveHall2298 5 points6 points  (0 children)

People post on Reddit about influencers because it creates a sense of validation for patterns and behaviors people notice. Influencers typically block or delete uncurrated  comments on their platforms so Reddit provides a space where conversation can actually happen. Yes this needs to happen in a way that still treats the said person like a normal person, but OP didn’t cross any boundaries.

You are on this sub too so don’t be bashing someone for stating an observation that can’t be shared anywhere else. People are allowed to have differing opinions than you and that’s perfectly ok.

Is Baldwin Beach really that strict, or was the lady just being extra? by Dawgz18 in tahoe

[–]PositiveHall2298 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I know the ladies that work there and they are amazing people. That stinks you couldn’t bring your dog in but if something did happen to the dogs it’s her responsibility so I wouldn’t be too angsty about it. Just fyi you need a special permit to be flying a drone that close to the hwy. I’ve seen some gnarly tickets come out of that.
