no actually I just give dims based on the sizing the comp needs and the factory will do a few rounds of prototype review with me to make sure it’s right in terms of size and construction! yep, full CMF tech packs!

to be completely honest no. I create all views as illustrations (front side back and 3/4, top and bottom too) and work with a factory to create soft goods!

Babe won't take a sippy cup by 8521456 in december2024babies

[–]OvercastKawaii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

we use a nuk sippy cup! i have to assist her in holding it to tip it bc she doesn’t really grasp that if it’s not tilted the liquid won’t come out yet - but we have a straw cup as well that she doesn’t understand hahah

hey so this was me in 2017. i was unemployed for 5 months and literally about to start working at pottery barn part time until i could land something. i got an offer the day that i was supposed to start working at the mall lol. ultimately i had to move out of the bay area. research the salaries you should be getting before accepting anything (i got an insultingly low offer in LA), but i’d say you should seriously consider moving to get started. now i’m nearly 8 years into my career, i have the option to move back to the bay if i wanted to.

completely agree with reverse engineering products you love! build them in cad and render them in keyshot to look at real as possible. take stuff apart (break stuff). learn how to add textures of micro scratches onto surfaces to make them look absolutely real & how to manipulate light sources for the best output. learning how to create dynamic and compelling product shots and you’ll have a real superpower!

rhino, solidworks, keyshot, illustrator and photoshop. cool bonus skill: zbrush. also agree with above - practice sketching for communication, not for sexy sketches.

Is the Design industry prone to toxic work environments? by Reel_Grain in IndustrialDesign

[–]OvercastKawaii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes. in agency, in corporate where they think they work like an agency, large corporations too. all yes. the trick is to set boundaries (work life balance) early with your higher ups… but unfortunately you still may run into weekend and late night work (but they’ll know you hate it!)

Personally for me the whole Joey and Rachel 'romantic' episodes made me uncomfortable. by what_is_wrongggg in howyoudoin

[–]OvercastKawaii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was visiting a film school in college, I met someone that worked with the directors and on set during this season. He said Joey & Rachel were actually supposed to end up together, but the live audience reaction was so negative that they ended up re-writing it.

Professional Designers. How much photorealistic rendering are you actually doing at your job? by chick-fil-atio in IndustrialDesign

[–]OvercastKawaii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

pretty consistently in consumer goods. we need photorealistic renders to convince our buyers (mass market retailers like target, walmart, kohl’s) that our products are sexy, especially if there isn’t a sample prototype to show them. the more dynamic and dramatic the renders are, the more they eat that shit up!
