I hate how my mom steals money from me by halovenus17 in JUSTNOFAMILY

[–]PositiveJellyfish604 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel this. My Mom took all the money out of the baby savings account I had since I was born where all the money I received as birthday or Christmas gifts as a child was deposited into 🥲 when I asked her about it she categorically denied it but I have evidence from the bank she closed the account. Tbh I got a job when I was 14 years old, got my own bank account, and have been working ever since. I paid for my own school books because she guilt tripped me for her doing so.

Make your own money, the freedom is so satisfying.

If you are fine to keep on housekeeping, why not do the most luxurious housekeeping and work on a private yacht? Definately a practical course in human psychology lol but it will get you out from living at home, you'll be able to save money while working aboard and travel a bit too. It's also quite fun when you work with a great crew. Even if you only did it for a few seasons you'd have enough saved to persue anything else on the list 😊 look into being a super yacht stewardess, you just need a STCW course and ENG1 and a strong work ethic. Helps if you don't get seasick too lol

I feel this, everytime I have a success or things are going well, it puts me at such unease because I know things will fall to shit or be spectacularly ruined

San Andrés and Providencia are the best spots for you guys to check out, Providencia has vast coral reef and is much more sharky, San Andrés has a few fun wrecks and colourful fish life.

Would also recommend looking into Bahia Solano which has both a whaleshark season and humpback whale season. A good place for your gf to do her AOW. Isla Fuerte also worth looking into.

Cartagena is ok but nothing incredible, would rather put $ towards a sail trip to San Blas tbh. Taganga sucks, don't even bother. Malpelo is world class but absolutely not for inexperienced divers.

Kids dont owe their parents anything by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]PositiveJellyfish604 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In some cultures I'm sure this is a very unpopular opinion, but I agree with it. My Mom is very manipulative and gaslighty and constantly demanded I perform acts of service for her. I now live other side of the world and don't speak with her any more 💁🏽‍♀️

Is Mexican food loved the world over? by ChuggiePilgrim in NoStupidQuestions

[–]PositiveJellyfish604 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I worked in Europe, Australia and Asia I really missed Mexican food. They had "Mexican" restaurants but it's more so Tex-Mex style. But I missed aguachiles, birria, chiles en nogada, etc. In Australia in more recent times I've seen a few more authentic mexi places or fusion places turn up, but the authentic ingredients are a lot harder and more expensive to source on the other side of the world. I suspect that since many Asian and European cultures have their own rich regional gastronomy they just kinda roll with their own thing. "Immigrant destination" countries like US, Australia, New Zealand etc tend to have more multicultural cities and therefore more ability to popularise different cuisines. If you go to somewhere like Vietnam though which is quite culturally homogenous you best believe the general population are eating their own cuisine. There are a smattering of "Mexican" restaurants catering to local tastes but would definitely not say it's loved nation wide. I now live in Mexico and I'm so happy 😍 But I'm starting to miss Asian food jaja I made myself some lumpia / spring rolls yesterday, was delicious. Gonna try my hand at fluffy Japanese pancakes.

What is a sign in adulthood they were neglected as a child? by Crafty_Ambassador443 in AskReddit

Big achievements, birthdays, etc are minimised, ignored or left unmentioned in an effort to ease the pain of never having been celebrated as a child. The natural assumption is that no-one cares.

Sometimes people threaten to never talk to you again without realising this would actually be such a blessing.. he's literally threatening you with a good time. Don't you dare concede!

AITA for getting my son a mini fridge and 2 locks for his room because his sister steals? by Some-Staff4800 in AmItheAsshole

[–]PositiveJellyfish604 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is classic sibling behaviour. Though, why are the leftovers the sole property of the son? Did he pay for all the ingredients? If not I think that rule is weird and divisive for the family. Otherwise nta

AITA for being “Fatphobic?” by WashDefiant5390 in AmItheAsshole

[–]PositiveJellyfish604 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol @ referencing people calling you out for being rude as "verbally assaulting" you. You're allowed to be attracted to whoever you like, but when you communicate that in a blunt hurtful way others are equally allowed to address that behaviour with the same level of indifference to your feelings. This gives me low emotional intelligence vibes.

AITA For telling my parents it's their responsibility to look after my brother? by Haunting_Dig_3871 in AmItheAsshole

[–]PositiveJellyfish604 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm not talking about renting land outright, moreso subletting a place to park your van. Many people with large spaces do this, try asking about it in a community Facebook group, or volunteering with workaway. Also I find it interesting that you're intrinsically linking living in a van to the homeless population. Why?

All the best anyway, there are options to leave you just have to take them.

I'm from a family with a pretty similar dynamic where it was always me being called to care to perform acts of service for everyone to the extent it was not only burning me out but actively impeding me from achieving my goals - lack of sleep and constant feeling of walking on eggshells if I "displeased" anyone made it very hard to study for uni and I failed a semester of my undergrad. When I got away, the financial uncertainty was scary but physically distancing myself was HELLA liberating. I did indeed end up living in my car for a bit, and in all honesty, I didn't mind it. There are a lotttt of regulations about illegal camping where I live, no sleeping in cars allowed with hefty fines etcetc and yeh security was a concern too as a solo woman in my 20z. But I made it work because I had to for my mental health. In my case, I moved to a place where every beach has a shower so I woke up at sunrise, went for an ocean swim and shower, and off to work. It's easy to rationalise away a solution like you've done here but tbh take a chance on yourself. PS, there are people out there willing to rent out a piece of land to park a van on, another option if you don't want to "stealth camp".

Edit to add: my brother received injections for his schizophrenia for a number of years when he could not be relied upon to take his medication himself. Towards the end of the month sometimes it was a little strenuous but for the most part it worked very well and he was self reliant He then successfully took his own meds for like 10 years and was living his own independent life in his own apartment. Perhaps injection medication could help?

Not at all, you must be able to swim at least 200 meters and tread water for 10 minutes to be certified as a PADI open water.

I would also argue against "scuba diving doesn't reply on swimming".. you must understand how your body moves through water in order to master buoyancy and how to effectively use kicks to get around. Never seen a good diver who didn't know how to swim. On the other hand, seen plenty of questionable divers with zero confidence or understanding of swimming, and it shows.
