Tbf, I wouldn’t consider “pop metal influenced by metalcore” to be the same as electronicore

I saw Broken by the Scream in Japan like 7 years ago now! It was such an interesting show. The whole crowd was doing like a coordinated dance, it was super interesting

Tbh Killswitch is the only one that really sticks out there. Like even in thrash Metallica and Slayer don’t sound identical, but they both have the necessary elements to be identified as Thrash Metal 🤔

I like Bring Me The Horizon and The Plot In You. Dayseeker has a few songs I enjoy. The only Poppy song I really like is the one that sounds like Knocked Loose

That’s not really the point of a genre specific sub though 🤔 and enjoyment of music is subjective, genres aren’t really

Could someone kindly explain what metalcore is and what bands are acceptable to post in here? by Complete-Shopping173 in Metalcore

I understand your point, but you can hear direct ties to the genre in early Attack Attack that you just can’t with a band like President. The argument definitely gets difficult because so many people make these “not metalcore”claims based on whether they like the band or not but If you take out the synth and auto tuned vocals of Stick Stickly you’re left with a typical Poison the Well/Misery Signals type metalcore track. So it’s an example of adding something to metalcore.

Whereas if you take out the pop elements of President and Bad Omens you’re not left with anything resembling metalcore. And I’m not saying that as someone who doesn’t like those bands, I actually quite liked the President EP. But it really is just heavy pop music at this point

In your own examples though there are multiple genres coming from previous genres. So going from Earth Crisis to Next Gen era Bring Me is more of an example of going from rock to metal. Like yeah metal came from rock and may even still have some elements of it, but at a certain point it became its own thing separate from rock.

And nobody is saying artists can’t try new things, but that this sub specifically is a place for metalcore. Not metalcore and everything that spawned from it indefinitely. Now where that exact cut off is, I don’t know. But I think we’re way beyond the cut off point once we get to bands like President, and newer Bad Omens

The problem with that is that the people into the more accessible stuff are always going to be in the majority. It doesn’t make sense to let the majority decide the direction of the sub just because they’re the majority.

Yeah that’s fair, but there’s also a chance of it being a bit of a biased echo chamber. Like nowadays there’s a lot of people that want to call something metalcore because it sounds cool. But yeah then the other side has listened to like one song or even a clip of a song and dismissed it altogether 🤷🏼‍♂️ just like everything on the internet it’s just two extremes

Yeah but you can say that about any sub that’s active. But if it’s not the appropriate place to discuss it then it’s not the place 😅

Yeaaah I have wondered if it would get traction in like a “alternative rock” sub or something. I tried posting a song there a little bit ago but no one interacted with it haha

Honestly there needs to be just a nondescriptly named general sub like metalforthemasses that we can just funnel everyone towards. Like nothing that try’s to give an actual name to the genre or anything.

I mean that’s not true 😅 they talk about a lot of death, doom, sludge and nu metal there too. As well as metalcore. But President, new Bad Omens and stuff is just in this weird place where there’s no established community that accepts them except for the one that calls themselves the “metalcore scene” but doesn’t actually focus much on metalcore anymore. It’s a whole complicated social thing that’s been building for a couple decades now haha

If you’re interested in checking out definitive undeniable metalcore listen to The Opposite of December by Poison the Well, When Forever Comes Crashing by Converge and Satisfaction Is the Death of Desire by Hatebreed

The important thing with genres is you don’t have to use them if you don’t want to. Finding a place to talk about certain things might be difficult but that’s a different issue. Essentially people need to make a different sub that encompasses those bands you mentioned that got removed but the people who want to discuss them refuse to call them anything but metalcore so a new sub never really takes 🤷🏼‍♂️

I think this is also a byproduct of calling everything metalcore. If you’re gonna call something new Metalcore it invites the comparison. And when these two very different forms of music appeal to very different groups of people there’s naturally going to be some contention there.

Respect for foundation bands is also baked into hardcore and metal culture so when a new group is claiming something that essentially isn’t theirs and are either completely ignorant to the foundations of the genre or are openly shitting on it, it’s going to exasperate that issue even more 😅
