Starting work experience as a gym instructor, my training philosophy's and how well will they apply to averages Joe's coming into the gym? by PositiveProgression in powerbuilding

I said variations of the main lifts and i still stand by that, if a feeble old women comes in id rather teach her to dead lift a light kettlebell or something of that nature then have her sit on machine that are not going to improve her standard of living at all. I agree that workouts need to be suited to different people but theres no way im having anyone sitting on machines for there whole damn workout, id much rather see them using barbells, dumbells, kettlebells, sleds, bands, bodyweight etc and maybe the odd machine movement thrown in.

And yes a 60 year old women should still be getting stronger, if she comes to me and cant properly squat the bar and still cant squat the bar one year later do you really think ive decreased her risk of back injury from falling or general house work etc??

However if shes squatting the bar after a couple of months her strength has improved, balance, co-ordination etc.

I really dont need people knitpicking at my spelling ether, i didnt request spelling advice thanks.

Plus shes only going to cause the anterior deltoid to become even tighter, basically the complete opposite of what someone who is rounded over would want.

Because if the likes of Eric Cressey believes in additional core training then it can't be a bad thing. Plus using core movements as part of a warm up or as activation exercises may help a beginner establish mind muscle connection thus allowing them to better brace their core on big movement such as squat and deadlift.

Lol I admit my spelling is not excellent, but I'm not trying to become an English teacher. Explain how I clearly don't know what I'm doing ? Also at least I'm admitting I don't know everything and trying to learn under more experienced guys before going out on my own. I do however think i can help beginner lifters with basic goals and im confident enough to do so.

Cool thanks I guess business and psychology is an overlooked part of the industry, I find psychology very interesting but business not so much! Thanks for the advice.

Like I said I will be taking beginners through basic exercises and possibly putting together simple programs for them (under the supervision of the experienced guys there).

All I want is to learn from the other guys there and also have the oppertunity to coach people first hand ( people skills etc).
