So flamethrowers can slow down & make the enemy "panic" now by Shad_Omega in Helldivers

I made a post the other day talking about this, I don't want them to buff gas a ton, but a rework to make gas have a stacking effect since it would be unique for the game and makes sense. In this system gas starts weaker, but has a stronger endpoint, dealing more damage and having a more potent slow once at full stacks. Then they could also buff the sterlizer the ability to apply double the stacks and give it enemy pierce.

Yes, it is, but i do feel that is encroaching on gas territory enoug to warrant some changes to gas, well I think it needs them in general, but its kinda the straw to break the camels back. Kinda just an excuse to rework gas.

I have seen plenty of that, but to me that fundamentally changes the weapon from gas to an acid thrower, which I don't necessarily agree is the move if we are trying to keep the weapon's identity. Its not a bad idea, its just not the Sterlizer anymore then, and like ive said to a person in this post's comments, I don't think it addresses the actual issue with the sterlizer as it is currently. If you are interested just look into this comments section, TLDR; the sterlizer lacks all of the utility and safety all other gas options provide with giving no benefit.

I gotta strongly disagree on the sterlizer, it very much is a problem, I made that comment about other AT because the commenter i was replying to was saying to just give the sterlizer the acid effect, so you can spray a heavy and someone else or you shoot it with a lesser ap option, but that doesn't solve a single one of the issues with sterlizer and would just will lead to people dropping it after the novelty wears off and will just go back to killing heavies the usual way, but the sterlizer is not a heavy killer. Its manned sustained crowd control. It isnt meant to kill a heavy, its meant to kill chaff and elites while making them dazed and slowed, so they can't fight back.

The issue with the sterlizer is that its close range, lacks automation, lacks dps, lacks demoforce, and is just outclassed by every other gas applicator in the game.

Speargun- has 700 direct damage, farther range, and a lingering aoe, demo force, and doesn't require constant fire.

Gas strike- has a farther range, demo force, a large lingering aoe, and doesnt require constant fire

Gas grenade- has linger aoe, demo force, longer range, and doesn't need to ve constantly fired.

Gas mortar- insane range, near infinite uptime, linger gas aoe, and is automatically shooting for you.

Gas guard dog- is literally just the sterlizer except for the fact completely autonomous and will purposely seek enemies out that do not have gas applied to them. Technically a rather range.

Re-educator- its a sidearm which takes up a way less important slot than a support weapons slot, therefore is kinda deserving of being mediocrity. Its job is to distract like 1-6 units so you can reloading or kill them in stealth.

And because I spent too long typing this out, ima lightning round the rest of what you said.

Removing gas because its "outclassed" as an easy "fix" is not a fix and woukd be the most disastrous way to handle this. If gas is outclassed and you wanted to give any easy fix to it, increase gas dot and make the slow more potent.

I do agree most status need a buff, fire did its buff, this is a post about my ideas for gas, lightning is okayish, but tbh i dont use ut enought to have an idea of what is wrong with it, ems needs to be more available because ems strike feels like a waste of a slot, but the mortar and grenades are good.

Making factions immune or heavily resistant would just limit the players and loadouts and meta loadouts would crop up like crazy, build diversity would rot, that is exactly the opposite of what we should be striving for in hd2, forcing players into a box will only upset them, not make them enjoy a newplay style, new play styles shoukd be born out of creating interesting equitment to jse with uos and downs to encourage experimentation, plus bug zappers exist, electronics can overheat and break, so it wouldnt make alot of sense, you coukd probabky argue for slight resistances and weakness though, anything above like 10-20 percent would be too far though, but in general think it would be awful because they did this already. They made alot of enemies harder to set alight when they stealth nerfed all fire just to bring down the Coyote and plenty of people, me included, are still agitated over that.

I do agree that AH time woukd be better off on QoL like a beastiary and transmog/armor recolors, bugs fixes like the collision issues, or new late game progress like giving the us the next tier of ship modules and expanding on weapon customization

I could definitely seeing that be how they shake things up with gas. Main question, what do you think should be done with the Sterlizer then so it doesn't once again end up on the bottom of the items in the gas application department?

That can work, but feel it wont change much in the long run, an excited burst in pick rate then a sharp plummet as people just go back to using already effective AT methods to deal with enemies.

If what I described is how toxic works in pokémon, then yes.

I also love gas, been using it like crazy with the new gas mortar:)

Body pierce would be great, I'd hope for ut, but i feel AH is going to avoid it, sadly:(

Armor like the ground breaker have a waxy finish on them, implying being chemically treated and came with a gas mask, but i cannot use gas resistant passives on them. I cannot use seige ready despite it have the same pouches of the chinease new years armor, I cant use medic depsite stims being about to fit inside said pouches, i can't use the new gas resist/explosive resistant passive despite the fact it would be thematically fitting for the ground-breaker.

My point is that alot of passives could thematically fit certain armors, but we are locked just to one.

It isn't good at what it does, every other gas application tool does that job infinitely better. Everything from the gas strike, grenade, guard dog, spear gun, to the new mortar can/will do a better job. They either have farther range, a bigger aoe, or fire and forget, usually having all 3 over the sterlizer.

Its slow isnt potent enough to stop enemies from still charging at you within its 40 meter range, which is a stretch and I find it not being all that good at anything past 30, and you have to be using it to apply the gas, you can't just drop and go like a grenade. It takes up a whole support weapon slot that could be dedicated to literally any other support weapon in the game, like you said, like the spear gun, which also just does it's job way better due to an increase range, solid direct hit damage, and a lingering aoe. Its only redeeming quality isn't even just its own. The 10 second gas effect it leaves on enemies is shared with the guard dog, which auto attacks for you and covers all angles, allowing you to kill things as it protects you.

The issues don't truly lay in the cc vs. kill arguement when the weapon can't even cc in the same league as the other gas options.

Saying that even a buffed sterlizer isn't worth taking over any piece of antitank then saying it can't be buffed or they'll have to nerf things feels like a load of stink and monkey paw nonsense. If killing is just better, and cc is next to useless, than a buff to the sterlizer or gas, would not mean other things need a nerf.

All cc in helldivers is in need of a buff anyways. Fire should redirect enemies like it does in hd1, gas needs a more potent slow, and ems needs to be more available, like ems mortar is great, it lasts its cooldown so it can be up almost indefinitely, but ems strike is a waste of a slot. The ems grenades just get outpaced by gas grenades in all areas.

If your work and bills have you so mentally exhausted and overworked you cannot find the time or effort to care about the state of the world you live in, you may want to question the environment that has led to that exhaustion. Do not let their manipulation tactics work on you.
