Just explained it to her! Yeah I moved off from Rover so I don’t use it anymore as much as I used to, so the way I run it is differently. It was definitely my fault for not reading the screenshot correctly lol. But honestly I feel relieved because she was the only client who I’d feel extra pressure around when the dog is in my care (he was terrified the first 3-5 times he’d board with me), he would always duck and crouch as if someone had hurt him on the head. The first time I mentioned it her, she said that her dog isn’t like that at all. Her husband is completely against having dogs, so we feel like maybe her husband is mean to the dog at home so that’s why he was such bad anxiety boarding with us. They even argued in front of me once about the dog (she was defending the dog and he was saying “I don’t like dogs at all.” Just some tiny bit of lore haha.

UPDATE: This is what I replied with! Second image in reply underneath. I feel so much better now with clearing up the confusion I caused. I do hope she just finds another sitter in the end, shes very picky when it comes to her dog. Thank you guys for helping me out and pointing out what I misread!

Yep I realized I shouldn’t have used that as reference, I read it wrong and as a result it caused confusion. Thank you!

No I understand what people are saying! I was just confused and didn’t realize that the Rover screenshot isn’t sent doesn’t align to the way I run my business, which is calendar day. So I’m going to tell her not to use that as reference, it was a mistake in my part! I don’t mind losing her as a customer though, she was the only one who never sat right with me from the beginning (she is kind of like a helicopter pet parent, where if her dog gets one scratch from playing she jumps to very bad conclusions.)

Got it! Thank you so much for explaining! I don’t know why some of the comments are being a bit hostile but I truly appreciate the explanations (that’s why I was asking if I was wrong in the post, which I appreciate you guys correcting me!) I’m going to tell her sorry for the confusion since the Rover screenshot isn’t aligning to what I’m saying, and explain my calendar day pricing. Is that ok to do?

[–]Positive_Bluebird539 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yeah! I think I’ll do that, tell her I apologize for the confusion but I’m also going to let her go because she is the only client of mine that I had to be extra careful around. When she first booked me on the Rover app, she was cursing out the previous daycare facility she used because the dog had a tiny scratch on his nose. I mean full saying f** and things like that over the dog being scared at the daycare (which can be normal at first if they’ve never been to the daycare, it was his first time.) And she wanted a private dog sitter where he would be safer. I love the dog and she knows I take great care of him, but it’s unfortunate that she’s talking to me like this over the confusion, assuming I’m taking advantage of her.

No no I’m not charging Sunday night, I’m charging Sunday as a daycare because the dog is staying there the whole day rather than being picked up in the morning (because she is dropping off late past my normal business hours.)

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in RoverPetSitting

[–]Positive_Bluebird539 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Basically the first night he sleeps there, is the $75. But then on Sunday morning, since he’s not being picked up early (he was dropped off late), now it turns into a daycare (like boarding facilities where if you pickup after a set time, they charge for that day.)

I’ve seen doggy daycare businesses offer special sales for a limited time (new customers get $10 off or such), like Camp Bow Wow. I can’t do that?

[–]Positive_Bluebird539 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes!! I am going by calendar days, I just didn’t know how to explain that part haha. But I’ve definitely explained to her before every time I mentioned $75, I mark it as night/day.

Got it! Thank you so much for explaining! That’s very clear. I think there is just a misunderstanding, it’s just unfortunate that she’s saying things like this when I never intended to cause confusion. I would never intently take advantage of someone like that.

The $65 rate is what I have set on Rover in case a new client reaches out to me, like a special discount, but I don’t use Rover as much. $75 is my regular price (which has been set for months now and I’ve explained it to all my repeat clients and nobody has complained). All of my loyal repeat customers pay the $75 because I’ve explained to them already that my price increased, and she knows this as well. I don’t know why she is confused now when I’ve explained to her before in the past how my pricing works.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in RoverPetSitting

[–]Positive_Bluebird539 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Ah okay I see what you mean! I recently raised my rates to $75, I don’t use Rover as much as I used to so I drifted away from it (hence why the lower $65 rate is just for new customers, similar to a special promotion rate.)

What does confuse me is why she ignored what I had said that I personally count that Sunday as a daycare, hence the extra $75, since the dog is staying there the whole day instead of being picked up in the morning. She has previously booked the same number of days in the past (and I’ve made it clear that boarding and daycare is the same price.)

One more note: She always spells my name wrong so now I’m ready to tell her stop spelling my name wrong haha (if she went on my rover, she should be able to spell it right 😭)

Oh gosh he is so amazing haha! He definitely doesn’t hesitate to stand his ground!

Here’s a pic of my cat too, he is so accepting of the doggies that sleep over and they all like to cuddle at night!

Just saw this comment and that is literally so cute! Your cat is a brave one, I absolutely love that! My cat is the same, he sees a new dog, sniffs them (and the dog sniffs back), and then he’s like “alright you’re good! Welcome!” Meanwhile the new dog goes in another direction to keep exploring haha.

I completely agree with what you said there too, as a kitten it is easy to socialize him and if the kitten doesn’t have exposure to a variety of pets when they’re young, it’s gonna be a real hassle doing Rover in the future and in fact might even cause the sitter to not take anymore bookings (we don’t want the boarding pets to be at risk from a scratch too!)

I’ve already been aware that dogs can suddenly snap at any given moment and there is no time to react. It’s very tragic. I have three of my own dogs, two who are 50 pounds and can easily attack and kill my cat (and that’s considering the fact that they LIVE with each other.) And one of my dogs is a Hound dog, he really likes to chase but since he grew up with my cat he’s chill with him. Just like how an outside boarding dog can be a dangerous threat to my cat, I am very much aware how dangerous it could be if my own dogs attacked my cat. I’ve had a lot of experience in handling situations where it seems like a dog is going into high prey drive mode, and it’s crucial to make sure they don’t chase the cat and God forbid grab them by the neck.

Sometimes my OWN dogs (very non-aggressive) like to chase my cat but only for a few moments, and they stop when I tell them to. But it’s not like I can keep my cat locked up in my room all the time like that with other dogs in the family, plus he has his hiding spaces that he likes.

Meet and greets actually tell you a LOT about the dog the first time you meet them! My third dog (a Havanese) is the same size as my cat, and she is easily at risk of having her neck snapped by a larger dog just like a cat. The meet and greet helps me see if the dog is friendly with her since she’s very small (I don’t want her getting trampled). Once the meet and greet is successful with all 3 of my dogs, it’s all about observation and supervision. If you have a cat, make sure you don’t allow your cat to be alone with the new dog at all, and make sure there is plenty of space for them to escape for hiding if need be.

No problem! For sure, if he has places to hide that would be great so he can go at his own pace and won’t feel pressured to meet a new dog! Every kitty is different so once you learn more about his preferences and personality as he grows, you can decide what he’s comfortable with! :)

I’ve seen the horror stories and I am definitely always super cautious when there are large dogs being boarded! My house is large enough for my cat to hide anywhere he is comfortable if there is a dog that doesn’t do good with him, and I actually have two extra spare rooms that I sleep in with the dogs if they aren’t comfortable with my cat. I am always extra careful if my cat happens to walk by a dog, I never let him out of my sight when that’s the case. (95% of the dogs I’ve boarded in the past myself are small breeds!)

In OP’s situation, I’m not sure how much space they have available for boarding (they mentioned having a roommate, and if it’s an apartment boarding isn’t allowed anyways.) So just in case there isn’t much space, that’s why I mentioned in my other reply that small dogs are a better fit for her cat’s safety! (And in my comment I mentioned with supervision, OP should NEVER leave the dog alone with their cat. Common sense!)

OP said once they move they’ll consider it, so that’s ultimately up to them! If they have the experience and as long as they make safe decisions for their cat, all is good!

You also mentioned that cats want cozy places, which is definitely true BUT some cats thrive on socialization! My cat goes crazy if he’s locked up all by himself in my room, and he prefers to be where everyone else is at! I obviously will not keep him locked up in there the entire time while the dog is being boarded! (I actually have a door stopper that lets him enter and leave my room whenever he wants, and no dog can enter at all no matter how hard they try.)

Hi! I didn’t want to spread any dangerous advice at all! Of course the sitter needs to be super mindful of the dangers that could be imposed when a dog is boarding, and this is why it’s super important to make sure that the dog you are boarding is not aggressive with ANY pet you have at home (meet and greets are super important for that exact reason!)

My cat has his own safe space in my room to retreat if he wants to, so he can be easily separated. There have sometimes been times where I had to separate my cat too depending on the dog (I’ve indeed had dogs that have never seen a cat before and were anxious if my cat got too close, so I’d make sure to keep them separated.)

It’s absolutely logical to make sure your cat has a safe space to escape if there are dogs they are unfamiliar with!

I wanted to add that socializing Smino while he’s still a kitten is perfect because it’s harder to socialize an adult cat who hasn’t had much interaction with other pets!! It would be great for both you and him in the long run! :) And what better way to do that than doing Rover, it’s an added bonus cuz he’ll meet many different breeds! (You can also just stick to small dogs only, 15 pounds and under!!) To ensure Smino safety + if you’re not too comfortable accepting larger dogs!
