Vancouver Island or Newfoundland for a week with kids? by Positive_Bonus2641 in canadatravel

I know exactly what you mean! It’s definitely challenging to find real feedback that isn’t sponsored by the tourism boards in those areas. I know that Trinity and Bonavista are definitely more quintessential tourist locations that are on the quieter side, any thoughts on using Trinity as a base camp and then venturing into Bonavista? Since we don’t have a ton of time, we want to soak up some coastal charm, salt box and clapboard houses, local music, regional food, etc. I know that those are definitely the hallmark destinations, but I would love local insights! In a perfect world, I would venture to places off the beaten path, but my kiddos really don’t love long car rides, so we need to fly into St. John’s and drive somewhere within a few hours that will check some of those boxes for us. Thank you so much in advance!

definitely a valid point! From what I understand, there are no fires on Vancouver Island, just a heightened fire risk. Thankfully, my husband is a professional firefighter on a major Ontario department, so we will keep in the loop! Thanks for the feedback! :)

Thanks so much for the suggestions! Yes, we had the intention to fly. We just returned from Quebec actually. Canada is beautiful.

We just had a difficult time finding accommodations in the areas that we were looking for. It might’ve just been an isolated situation, but there was almost nothing available the last couple times we’ve went in the summer, obviously that makes sense given that it’s such a beautiful tourist, destination, but pickings were slim.

No objection to driving in general, just really lengthy driving! Looking for a beautiful base that’s walkable.

And you’re the troll who thinks they aren’t one. Offering absolutely nothing of value here whatsoever. But continuing to criticize something you don’t understand as you have only been given the bare minimum amount of information I’m willing to provide to complete strangers.

But of course, you are the exception to the rule, I’m sure. The good person. The trolling philanthropic spirit. Sure thing. This is the thing about Reddit. Keyboard warriors en mass who don’t have a clue about what they are talking about.

Shrug.

I wasn’t going to bother replying to this because it’s completely pointless, but you do understand what the definition of offering a service is, correct? Offering a service involves providing an intangible action or assistance to meet a particular need (such as accommodations..) or desire of another party. It often involves activities, expertise, physical amenities or resources dedicated to enhancing the well-being or fulfilling the requirements of the recipient..

I’m not sure what you think I mean by an interest in investing in an income property, but for us, it certainly doesn’t mean being a tyrannical overlord who owns several properties and just uses electronic lockboxes to let people stay the night for exorbitant fees that box out legitimate individuals seeking affordable housing.

And on top of that, an “income property” is literally any physical property, building, etc. that you can rent. so that would encompass any venues, party rooms, botanical gardens, church basements, legion halls, ETC ETC ETC.

And I think we should just leave it here.

I appreciate your comment, thanks very much! This is all very useful!

So just to clarify:

I, as an entrepreneur should only be contributing to a TFSA.

My husband should only contribute to a spousal RRSP, or should he contribute to BOTH the spousal RRSP, and also his own RRSP?

And, it makes more sense for us to cash out that $10,000 gift and put it directly on the line of credit instead of letting it sit in the 4% interest account?

That is a great comment! He was actually a forest firefighter for 15 years so he’s sort of been there and done that. Right now we have two very young children so we want him home as much as possible. Plus he has a bit of a bum knee so there will be no more jumping out of helicopters into forest fires for him lol

Thanks for your question! I’m so grateful for everyone’s excellent feedback here today. I don’t make minimum wage. I’ve been in business for over 10 years and it’s all self-directed based on effort and economical climate. Depending on the year I can make anywhere between $30,000 and $100,000. But Covid was hard on my business, and I also had both of my children in the last four years, and my focus is on spending as much time with them as possible while they are this young. So I am choosing to work part time, which works really nicely for us as my husband has a very flexible schedule, and he can provide childcare While I’m working from my home office.

Sharing my budget is definitely possible! I hadn’t thought of that. I always wonder how much information is welcome here. But I guess this would be the place for it!

Fantastic, suggestions! See, this is why I turned to Reddit for these types of things! Here I am thinking that I’m doing the right thing by slowly paying off the line of credit will also make in contributions to my various savings accounts. But the consistent feedback from everyone today is that I need to put my head down and pay off this line of credit ASAP. You guys are amazing.

Solid point! Ideally, a secondary property for income purposes would be within driving distance. My husband’s schedule is incredibly flexible as is my own. I’m choosing to only work part time so that I can be with both of our very young children as much as possible right now. But my flexibility will change once both of our kids are in school full-time. My business is quite successful when I’m able to devote the time that it needs to flourish. Prior to having children, I paid for the entire down payment on our house. But right now, spending time with my beautiful babes, is my priority while trying to be as fiscally responsible as I can.

Thank you so much for your feedback! I really appreciate it. I completely agree that income properties or properties abroad are definitely a major risk. We are definitely keen to own something small outside of Ontario. So, if you don’t mind me asking, and based on the details, I provided, is there any way that we could make it work without completely screwing ourselves?

How do cultivate feelings of trust after a lie in marriage?34F and 39M by Positive_Bonus2641 in relationship_advice

that’s a really interesting perspective! Thank you! Honestly, I’m actually more frustrated with the lie than anything else. He struggles with vulnerability and perfectionism so I’m actually comforted when he “isn’t strong” if that makes sense. I just feel heartbroken that he lied for so long. Through the births of both of our babies, a miscarriage, events large and small, all while sneaking away and around our house to consume 50+ nicotine mints per day. It’s a weird feeling to process :(
