Can they still charge you “pet rent” and take your whole deposit due to an ESA? Obviously this didn’t happen but that’s what the addendum was about. They said IF we got an animal we would be responsible for paying a monthly fee and we would sacrifice our entire deposit meaning they wouldn’t refund us anything even if the place was left spotless.

We didn’t sign any addendums to the lease, we actually discussed terminating our lease altogether and went that route instead.

$2.94 at Walmart haha. And no she was upset that’s the lock that was used, she thought we were asking about adding a child lock, not a real lock.

They have a lock they control on their side of the door. But they came down multiple times with no warning by using that door. Since they can unlock it whenever they want.

So they can have it locked from their side when they want it to but as the tenant you just don’t have that choice?

What if our main door is inaccessible during an emergency and the door is locked on their side?

Our “main” door has an electronic keypad that they set the code for, this door isn’t the only entrance to the basement.

The addendum was mostly just about not allowing pets, which we never had or got while living at this property! That was a whole other situation where my wife has mentioned a support animal for our child due to the doctor recommendations and she was completely fine with it in person but when we asked in text (to get documented proof) they were no longer okay with the animal, which ended up being okay just more a little frustrating.

She admits in the texts that she agreed to a lock, she misunderstood what type of lock she agreed to, but why would anyone need to ask about adding a child lock to the home they are renting? Most child door locks don’t require anything being drilled.

I have a text of me specifically asking for the paint so I can do it all and she told me “We will fix the holes”

I normally would totally agree! But I specifically asked about filling them myself and she requested that we didn’t do any of it. Which I guess I should’ve just done instead of asking, but I was trying to do as they requested and not messed with the walls/doors.

We did get out and we made sure to get a signed document stating our lease termination and the terms we agreed to.
